Israel passes new laws in fight against terror

Israel is using all the means at its disposal, including the law, to combat the latest wave of Palestinian terror.

Israel’s government, during its weekly cabinet meeting on Sunday, unanimously approved Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s proposal to impose minimum prison sentences of at least four years on terrorists who throw rocks, firebombs and fireworks, and to impose fines on the parents of minors who participate in terror activities .

“We are doing this as an emergency measure and will consider the extent of its implementation. If need be, we will make the law even more severe,” Netanyahu stated.

The government approved this measure, together with others, as part of Israel’s war on the rising wave of Palestinian terror against Israel’s citizens.

Terrorists’ Citizenship Revoked

Similarly, Interior Minister Silvan Shalom instructed the Population and Immigration Authority to begin revoking the residency status of two terrorists who attacked and stabbed Israelis last week.

Both terrorists lived in Jerusalem neighborhoods.

The decision was made, and is being carried out, under the Interior Minister’s authority as delineated by Article 11 of the Law of Citizenship and Entry into Israel.

When the process is completed, the attackers will no longer have the legal right to receive Israeli social benefits and other services.

“These terrorists have blatantly acted against their loyalty to the State of Israel through their attempts to kill innocents and, as such, they are not fit to live among us,” Shalom stated.

“We cannot allow terrorists and saboteurs to take advantage of their status as citizens or residents in the country to carry out attacks.”

Shalom also warned that he would do likewise with any terrorist who acted similarly in the future.

“We must expel these bloodthirsty killers from among us,” Shalom declared.

Ministers in the past have taken similar steps in times of severe terror against Israel.
