A dwarf Palm tree in central Tel Aviv, whose fruits are poisonous, has caused the death of several dogs, Israel Hayom daily reports Wednesday.

Despite the tree’s menace to dogs as well as humans, the municipality has refused to cut it down, the report said.

The city said that it has not planted such trees in several years and has not received any complaints about them in several months. It also said planted trees would not be removed.

The newspaper report quotes several dog owners who have lost their beloved pets to the tree and its forbidden fruits.

The owners say their pets suffered for several days after which they either died or miraculously recovered.
