Massive protests took place in downtown Pittsburgh on Wednesday in conjunction with US President Donald Trump’s arrival a mere days before the one year anniversary of the Tree of Life synagogue massacre, reports multiple media sources.

According to the reports, 14 Jewish protesters from the progressive advocacy group Bend the Arc were arrested.

Chants of “Trump endangers Jews” were heard, and signs that read “You are not welcome here” and “Our solidarity will defeat White Nationalists” were seen.

President Trump has come under fire every since Robert Bowers killed 11 people in the Tree of Life synagogue on  October 27, 2018.

Many attribute the president’s brash rhetoric and his failure to consistently call out white supremacists as the impetus behind the attack.

“The gunman who entered the synagogue a year ago was driven by fear and lies to kill Jewish people and stop new immigrants — but he didn’t invent these lies. He heard them from the mouth of this President and the white nationalists this President and his allies have emboldened and enabled,” one of the protesters said in a statement to The Hill

“And what did this President do? Instead of changing his ways, he doubled down on his ugly rhetoric and policies of fear, leading to more violence and deaths, from Poway to El Paso to our nation’s immigrant detention facilities, and beyond. Our lives were not worth changes in policy or rhetoric for him,” the protester added.
