China floats solution to the ‘Israel problem’ January 16, 2024Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi (AP/Roman Pilipey)AP/Roman PilipeyChina floats solution to the ‘Israel problem’Beijing calls for immediate ceasefire in Gaza, formation of Palestinian state.Susan Tawil, World Israel NewsWang Yi, Foreign Minister of China, met Sunday in Cairo with Egypt’s Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry to discuss the “Israel problem.”Both ministers called for an immediate Israeli ceasefire, and Yi demanded “the establishment of an independent, fully sovereign State of Palestine on the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.”Additionally, Yi and Shoukry stipulated the need for an international peace summit to set up “a just, comprehensive and lasting solution to the Palestinian cause by ending the (Israeli) occupation and establishing an independent, contiguous Palestinian state.”China said it would welcome the “active role of the United Nations” in this process.When PA President Mahmoud Abbas visited Beijing this past June, he was welcomed with full military honors and forged a “strategic partnership” with his hosts.Chinese President Xi Jinping affirmed that China has “always firmly supported the just cause of the Palestinian people to restore their legitimate national rights.”During his visit to Cairo, Wang Yi also spoke to Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, discussing the need for an immediate Israeli ceasefire “to prevent the conflict from further spilling over.”Of prime concern to China is the recent shipping crisis launched by Yemen’s Houthi terrorists against merchant vessels traversing one of the world’s most important trade routes.
