A civilian drone narrowly missed colliding with an IDF Black Hawk helicopter over a military base in central Israel, the Israeli military announced Monday.

The IDF and Israel Police are investigating the incident, which occurred Sunday night.

The drone, which operated illegally in restricted Israeli airspace, “dangerously approached” the Israeli helicopter, the IDF said.

“The IDF will work with the Israel Police to prevent security risks carried out illegally and against the aerial information security protocols of the State of Israel,” the army stated.

Just over a week ago, London’s Gatwick Airport was closed for 36 hours due to rogue drones. With more than 750 flights canceled, over 120,000 passengers impacted, and tens of millions of dollars in losses, the incident was deemed a major security breach, notwithstanding the lack of casualties or damage to property that ensued.
