Israeli envoy rejects Syrian accusations on Israeli strike

Danon referred to the accusation by Syria’s UN ambassador that Israel supports terrorism as “the peak of hypocrisy.”

Israeli Ambassador to the United Nations Danny Danon rejected his Syrian counterpart’s assertions that Israel supports terrorist groups in Syria.

“It is the peak of hypocrisy for the ambassador of a regime that massacres its own people to level such accusations at us,” Danon stated on Monday.

Syria’s ambassador to the UN, Bashar Jaafari, speaking on Syrian state TV on Sunday, said that “our battle against ISIS achieved an important triumph in Palmyra and Aleppo, and (Israel) wants to assist terrorism,” according to a translation provided by Ynet.

Jaafari made his remarks a few days after Israel struck targets in Syria in an attempt to prevent advanced weaponry from reaching the Lebanese terrorist group Hezbollah. Danon added that Israel would continue to conduct such operations whenever necessary.

“Israel will continue to defend its citizens and will act against any attempt to harm them,” Danon stated.
