(AP video, File)(AP video, File)EU imposes sanctions on Syrians for chemical weapons attacksThe EU imposed sanctions on Syria as part of an effort to “fight the proliferation and use of chemical weapons.”The European Union (EU) on Monday placed sanctions against four senior military officials on Syria for their reported role in chemical-weapons attacks in the country’s ongoing civil war.The move is intended to fall “in line with the EU’s policy to fight the proliferation and use of chemical weapons.”To date, the EU has sanctioned 239 people in Syria that bear at least some responsibility “for the violent repression against the civilian population in Syria.” It has also frozen assets of 67 entities.Other EU sanctions against Syria include an oil embargo and restrictions on investments as well as on a variety of equipment and technology.By: Jonathan Benedek, World Israel News Chemical weaponsEuropean UnionSanctionsSyria
