Haley: US supports 2-state solution, but also thinking ‘outside the box’

More than a two-state solution, the US supports “peace and stability,” US Ambassador Nikki Haley explained.

US Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley said on Thursday, after a UN Security Council meeting, that the US supports the idea of a two-state solution between Israel and the Palestinians, but was also welcome to new ideas.

“We absolutely support the two-state solution, but we are thinking out of the box as well, which is — what does it take to bring these two sides to the table, what do we need to have them agree on?” Haley stated during a press conference.

“What we support more is peace and stability and by bringing the two (parties) to the table to have them talk through this in a fresh way,” she added.

Haley also briefly touched upon the issue of Israeli construction in Judea and Samaria. “What the president has said and that we agree on is that expanding settlements at this point is not helpful,” she said, adding that at the same time, “we don’t think that that is the sole reason that we are not getting peace in this process.”

Haley’s remarks were made against the backdrop of a joint press conference with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Wednesday in which Trump called upon Israel to “hold of on settlements for a little bit.”
