IAF bombs Hamas targets in response to mortar attack

Israel has vowed to respond to any aggression on the part of Hamas or other terror groups operating in Gaza.

Israel Air Force (IAF) aircraft attacked three Hamas terror targets in the Gaza Strip late Wednesday night in response to a mortar fired by Palestinian terrorists at Israel’s civilian population earlier in the day.

The mortar exploded in an open space, causing no casualties or damage.

“The IDF views the Hamas terror organization the sole bearer of responsibility for all incidents emanating from the Gaza Strip, and will continue to act with severity to maintain the peace in southern Israel,” the IDF said in a statement.

The last such incident occurred in August, when Palestinian terrorists fired a rocket at the city of Sderot.

There have been several sporadic rocket and mortar attacks against civilian targets and against IDF forces operating on the border. There were no injuries in any of those incidents.

Since Operation Protective Edge in the summer of 2014, there have been multiple rockets attacks from Gaza, and over 20 rockets have exploded in Israeli territory.
