Former President Donald Trump is the target of an assassination plot directed by the Iranian government, a senior Trump 2024 campaign official said late Tuesday night.

In a statement to the press, Trump Campaign Communications Director Steven Cheung said the former president and 2024 Republican presidential nominee had been briefed earlier on Tuesday by the Biden administration about what Cheung described as “real and specific threats” by the regime in Tehran to assassinate Trump.

“President Trump was briefed earlier today by the Office of the Director of National Intelligence regarding real and specific threats from Iran to assassinate him in an effort to destabilize and sow chaos in the United States,” Cheung said.

In light of the new threat and in the wake of two failed assassination attacks by snipers, Cheung said that security around the former president has been increased.

“Intelligence officials have identified that these continued and coordinated attacks have heightened in the past few months, and law enforcement officials across all agencies are working to ensure President Trump is protected and the election is free from interference.”

“Make no mistake, the terror regime in Iran loves the weakness of Kamala Harris, and is terrified of the strength and resolve of President Trump. He will let nothing stop him or get in his way to fight for the American people and to Make America Great Again.”

The Iranian mission to the United Nations did not immediately respond to inquiries regarding the Trump campaign’s statement.

The Office of the Director of National Intelligence also declined to respond to requests for comment late Tuesday night.
