Israeli desert wines earn global recognition alongside Bordeaux and Napa

In a historic breakthrough for Israel’s wine industry, the Negev Desert has officially been recognized as an international wine region — placing Israel’s desert vineyards alongside legendary names such as Champagne, Bordeaux, Chianti, and Napa Valley.

The new protected geographical designation “Negev” crowns years of research proving the uniqueness of wines cultivated in one of the harshest climates on earth, transforming barren desert landscapes into a thriving center of Israeli innovation and agriculture.

Stretching from Kiryat Gat to Eilat, the Negev now hosts more than 60 wineries producing over one million bottles annually, with supporters calling the recognition a major economic and Zionist milestone expected to boost tourism and place Israeli wines firmly on the global map.
