Israeli Paralympic swimmer wins 3rd medal

Israeli Paralympic swimmer Inbal Pezaro won a bronze medal at the 2016 Rio Paralympic Games after finishing third place in the 200-meter individual medley race on Wednesday.

Inbal Pezaro, 29, suffered a vascular complication in her spine and became paralyzed from the waist down as a baby. In spite of this, she began swimming at five, becoming a competitive swimmer by 12.

She made her Olympic debut in Athens in 2004. This is her fourth Olympic competition.

This latest medal is her ninth Paralympic medal overall, including four silver and five bronze.

Israeli rower Morane Samuel was the first Israeli Paralympian to win a medal at the Rio games, taking home a bronze last Sunday, followed by Paralympic athlete Doron Shaziri who won the bronze medal in the men’s three-stage shooting competition on Monday.

Israel has won a total of 380 Paralympic medals, including 124 gold medals, placing it thirteenth on the list of medal-winning countries.

More than 30 Israeli athletes are competing in the 2016 Paralympics in a range of events including tennis, table tennis, goalball, rowing, sailing and swimming.
