Jewish doctor led team that treated synagogue shooter

A Jew, Dr. Jeff Cohen, leads the hospital that treated the Pittsburgh mass shooter. Cohen is also a member of the Tree of Life synagogue where the massacre took place.

“I looked at him and I wanted to understand why did he do this. And I had no answers,” Dr. Cohen, president of  Allegheny General Hospital, told CNN’s Alex Marquardt.

“I asked him, ‘How are you feeling?’ And he was sort of groggy. And he said, ‘I’m feeling OK.’ And I introduced myself as Dr. Cohen, president of Allegheny General. And I left,” he said.

“The FBI agent in charge looks at me and says, ‘I don’t know how you did that because I’m not sure I could of,” Cohen added.

Dr. Cohen said the hospital team “took very good care” of the shooter, Robert Bowers.

Bowers attacked the Tree of Life synagogue in the Squirrel Hill neighborhood of Pittsburgh on Saturday morning. He used an AR-15 style rifle and three Glock hand guns. He shot and killed 11 synagogue goers and wounded six others, including four police officers.

Bowers surrendered after being shot several times and was taken to Allegheny General Hospital.
