Omar challenger for Congress catches attention of pro-Israel group

A Democratic candidate challenging Rep. Ilhan Omar in Minnesota’s 5th District for the party’s nomination in the 2020 election is gaining the interest of a pro-Israel group active in Congress.

Antone Melton-Meaux describes himself on Twitter as: “Family man. Professional problem solver. Lifelong Democrat. Candidate for US Congress.”

He is “an attorney and volunteer minister,” reports Minnesota Public Radio (MPR).

“We don’t have to remind you of Rep. Omar’s terrible record on the issues – she has already raised $1 million by touting anti-Semitic tropes, supporting the BDS movement which seeks to strangle Israel, and calling on Congress to lift sanctions on Iran while increasing sanctions on Israel,” writes Pro-Israel America to its followers in an email.

“Removing an anti-Israel voice like Ilhan Omar from Congress would be a big deal for the pro-Israel community. This could be a critical moment,” the message continues.

Melton-Meaux’s attitudes toward Israel appear unclear.

“We will be reaching out to learn more,” says Pro-Israel America.

Danielle Stella, a Republican seeking to unseat Omar, was suspended from Twitter after her account posted about killing the incumbent congresswoman, The Washington Times reported.

“Stella’s campaign account on Twitter, @2020MNCongress, was punted from the platform after posting at least twice about hanging Ms. Omar,” said the paper.

“If it is proven @IlhanMN passed sensitive info to Iran, she should be tried for #treason and hanged,” the account reportedly had posted.

The account has since been “permanently suspended for repeated violations of Twitter’s rules,” a Twitter spokesperson told The Washington Times last week.

Omar is reportedly denying that she “passed sensitive information that was relayed to Iran, and received funding by a foreign government,” as reported by Al Arabiya English, a Gulf-based news outlet, based on a sworn deposition by a Canadian businessman in a Florida court.

In the deposition, the court reportedly was told that Qatari officials “claimed credit for the meteoric rise of Omar, saying: ‘If it wasn’t for our cash, Ilhan Omar would be just another black Somali refugee in America collecting welfare and serving tables on weekends.’”
