Opinion: Calling the rape and murder of a Jewish teen for what it is

Palestinians want to distance themselves from the rape and murder of Ori Ansbacher, 19. They can’t be allowed to get away with it.

It’s the era of the #MeToo movement, even for terrorists.

Following the gruesome killing of young Jewish teen Ori Ansbacher in a nature park on the outskirts of Jerusalem, Palestinian terror groups have attempted to distance themselves from the killer due to the sexual nature of the assault.

Aida Touma-Suleiman, an Arab Knesset member, made the outrageous claim that “the rape and murder of Ori Ansbacher is a sex-related crime … the Palestinian criminal … can’t possibly be part of a national liberation.”

The question is: If it was just a sex-related crime, why did the suspect enter Israel looking for a Jewish victim? Couldn’t he have just carried out his perverse urges on an Arab girl in Hebron?

Touma-Suleiman, who made a name for herself with women’s issues and who heads the Committee for the Advancement of Women, appears to show here where her priorities lie. When it comes to defending women from assault or defending the Palestinian war against Israel from bad press, it seems the latter comes first.

Facts are stubborn things. Arafat Irfayia left his home in Hebron with a knife to carry out an attack on Jews. “I entered Israel with a knife because I wanted to become a martyr and murder a Jew,” Irfayia said. “I met the girl by chance.”

Irfayia’s family identifies with Hamas. He has disseminated Hamas propaganda himself. Israeli authorities arrested him in 2017 for staying in Israel illegally and being in possession of a large kitchen knife. In a move hardly flattering of Israel’s security services, they released him even though he said he’d “come back here with a knife.”

So while Fatah, Hamas and Islamic Jihad refuse to take credit for the killing, and the Palestinian Prisoner’s Club hasn’t yet sent a lawyer to represent Irfayia, they’re not fooling anyone. Irfayia is the true face of the “Palestinian Liberation movement.” He is yet another product of a culture that marinates its people in Jew hatred, just one more jihadist looking for his 72 virgins.

He found one, a sweet Jewish girl who liked to go for walks in nature and write poetry. She had her whole future ahead of her before it was snuffed out by this animal, who is really nothing more than a typical product of the Palestinian Authority’s educational system.

If he had “just” killed her, Irfayia would be hailed as a national hero, with every terrorist faction vying to claim him as their own. But he raped the girl too. Not that the Palestinians care. But they are worried.

The rape and murder of Ansbacher has caused widespread shock in Israel. And the Palestinians fear a counter-reaction. There are already calls within Israel for the death penalty for the terrorist.

Israelis have experienced enough terrorism to know it when they see it. And what happened to Ori Ansbacher was terror, straight and simple.
