PA congratulates Iran on anniversary of Islamic Revolution

The Palestinian Authority Chairman congratulated Iran for “National Day” celebrations, marking the country’s Islamic Revolution in 1979.

Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas expressed words of congratulations to Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani for Iran’s “National Day.”

“The president expressed his heartfelt congratulations on this occasion,” the Palestinian news outlet Wafa reported.

“(Abbas) asked God to bring more stability and prosperity to Iran and its brotherly people as they celebrate this occasion, and more progress and advancement in the brotherly relations between our people.”

On “National Day,” Iran celebrates the country’s Islamic Revolution of 1979 that ousted the previous secular government under the Shah and replaced it with a theocratic Shia-Islamic led government. Iran renounced its ties with Israel after the revolution and became one of the staunchest supporters of the Palestinian cause, opposing any recognition of a Jewish state in the region.

At the same time, Iran has financially and militarily supported the Hamas terrorist organization that has controlled the Gaza Strip since 2007. Hamas is currently at stark odds with the Palestinian Authority, which only has autonomy over Palestinians living in Judea and Samaria.
