Suspect shot by police during drug raid

A man was shot dead in south Tel Aviv Wednesday night by policemen after he pulled a gun as a police unit attempted to arrest him during a drug bust.

Police units were conducting a drug raid in the Old Bus Station area when they came upon four suspects. The officers asked them to identify themselves and in response, one of them drew a gun and began to escape. The officers shot and seriously wounded him.

He was evacuated to Ichilov hospital, where he subsequently died of his wounds.

No policemen were hurt in the incident.

Police say the man was in his 30s. His identity is yet to be revealed.

The three other suspects managed to escape, and the police is now searching for them.

Internal Affairs announced it has launched an investigation into the incident, which is standard procedure.
