An 11-year-old girl has died nearly three weeks after being critically injured by an Iranian missile strike on her family home.

Nesya Karadi passed away Friday at Sheba Medical Center, becoming the 21st civilian fatality in Israel since the current conflict began on February 28.

The attack occurred on April 1, just hours before the start of Passover.

Officials confirmed the strike involved an Iranian missile equipped with a cluster warhead; a sub-munition directly hit the Karadi home, wounding 14 people.

Among the injured was Nesya’s father, a volunteer with the Magen David Adom paramedic service.

In a final act of heroism before losing consciousness from his own injuries, he reportedly administered life-saving first aid to his daughter.

Hanoch Zeibert, the Mayor of Bnei Brak, expressed the city’s deep grief over the loss of a “pure child whose whole life was ahead of her,” pledging the municipality’s full support to the Karadi family during their ordeal.

The Israel Defense Forces has neutralized well over 70% of Iran’s ballistic missile stockpile and launchers, while maintaining a 92% interception rate against more than 400 missiles fired at the Israeli home front since the war began, according to military figures.

The ongoing Iranian attacks include the heavy use of cluster munitions, which present a significant challenge even as the vast majority of direct missile impacts are thwarted.

According to IDF International Spokesperson Lt. Col. Nadav Shoshani, who spoke earlier this week after two direct hits in civilian areas in Arad and Dimona that led to more than 100 injuries, military data continues to indicate a highly effective air-defense array, with four direct hits recorded since the start of the war out of hundreds of missiles fired.

The impacts occurred in Tel Aviv, Beit Shemesh, Arad and Dimona.

The Iranian regime has focused on targeting civilian communities, reflected in the fact that all casualties from ballistic missile attacks in the current war are civilians.

“Cluster munitions fired toward large cities, covering wide areas, are designed to hit civilians,” Shoshani said.

When an Iranian ballistic missile deploys its cluster payload at an estimated altitude of just under 10 kilometers, lower-tier interception systems appear to lose effectiveness against the scattered submunitions.

Consequently, the defense architecture relies on upper-tier interceptors such as Arrow 2 and Arrow 3 to destroy the primary warhead prior to the dispersal of the cluster munitions. Interception prior to deployment eliminates the threat.

When an Iranian cluster munition disperses successfully, the submunitions have a destructive capacity roughly equivalent to standard 122 mm rockets.

The Iranian defense industry also appears to place cluster payloads on older Chinese-manufactured rocket models previously encountered during the 2006 Second Lebanon War.

Meanwhile, the danger to civilians from interception debris means the Home Front Command keeps civilians in secure locations until the risk has passed.

Iran has been firing several types of ballistic missiles in the current conflict, including the Khorramshahr-4, an older model featuring a heavy warhead, and a limited number of Sejjil two-stage solid-fuel missiles.

From the ground in Israel, these incoming warheads appear identical.

“From what we know so far, these are missiles we have encountered before and are capable of intercepting,” Shoshani said, speaking after the southern impacts.

Prior to the strikes in Dimona and Arad, the air-defense array successfully intercepted similar missiles in southern Israel.

To degrade the threat, the Israeli Air Force has carried out extensive strikes on Iran’s missile program, significantly reducing launch capabilities.

“The launch rate has dropped by 80-90%, which we see as a major achievement,” Shoshani said.

The current daily launch rate stands at roughly 10 missiles per day.

Addressing Iran’s missile strike on Diego Garcia on March 19, some 4,000 kilometers from Iran, Shoshani said, “Just two days before the war, Iranian officials denied having missiles beyond 2,000 km.”

The extended range places European capitals within reach.

“This means cities like Berlin, Paris, Rome and London are within range,” he said.

The IDF is also targeting strategic nuclear research and development facilities alongside missile-program sites.

The Home Front Command conducts ongoing intelligence assessments to balance civilian protection with maintaining routine activity to the extent possible.

The command coordinates directly with local authorities, prioritizing the saving of lives while seeking to preserve flexibility in civilian sectors.

Alongside the Iranian threat, northern Israel has faced continued rocket fire from Hezbollah in Lebanon. Nuriel Dubin, 27, a resident of Moshav Margaliot, was killed on Tuesday in a Hezbollah rocket attack in the Galilee.

An Iranian cluster munition attack caused widespread damage across residential areas in central Israel.

A married couple in their 70s were killed overnight Tuesday when an Iranian bomb directly struck their home in the Tel Aviv suburb of Ramat Gan.

An initial investigation found that a cluster munition impacted the roof of their four-story apartment building. Five additional residents were wounded in the attack.

First responders said the couple’s bodies were found next to their apartment’s bomb shelter, suggesting they had tried to reach safety but failed to make it in time.

Chen Amir, who lives in the same building on a lower floor, described the moment of impact and its immediate aftermath in an interview with Hebrew-language outlet Walla.

“We heard the siren and my wife and I went into the bomb shelter. After a minute we heard a serious boom,” Amir recounted.

“After two minutes I opened the [bomb shelter] door,” he said, noting that his apartment was filled with “thick smoke and a burning smell.”

Amir said he saw the slain couple’s apartment after the strike and described extensive damage.

The apartment “had a hole in the middle of the living room ceiling,” Amir said.

“They have a bomb shelter, but they didn’t have time to get there. We were in the bomb shelter, that’s what saved us,” he added.

There were approximately 20 other sites throughout central Israel where damage was reported after munitions from the missile spread over a wide area.

The slain couple have not yet been publicly identified by name in Hebrew-language media.

Damage was also reported at the nearby Savidor Merkaz train station, forcing its temporary closure.

In a statement, Israel Railways said teams were working around the clock to reopen the station as soon as possible and that charter buses had been commissioned to assist commuters.

About half of the ballistic missiles launched by Iran at Israel during the current conflict have carried cluster munition warheads, according to new assessments by the Israeli military.

Cluster warheads break apart in the air, dispersing dozens of smaller explosive submunitions over a wide area. Israeli officials say the bomblets can spread across a radius of roughly 10 kilometers (about six miles), creating a risk to civilians and increasing the potential for damage in populated areas.

The Israel Defense Forces say their air defense systems have intercepted many of the incoming missiles, including those carrying cluster payloads, but stress that the defenses are not foolproof.

Military officials say the interceptions have been largely effective, though the nature of cluster munitions makes them more difficult to counter.

According to the military’s Home Front Command, Iranian missile attacks during the war have targeted Israeli population centers as well as military bases and critical infrastructure.

In recent days, Iran’s launches have typically consisted of one or a few missiles at a time rather than large coordinated barrages. Israeli officials believe this may indicate difficulties in organizing larger-scale attacks.

On Monday, two people were killed when a cluster munition struck a construction site in central Israel. Another person was seriously wounded in a separate strike in the same region, while several additional impact sites caused damage.

The IDF has opened an investigation into whether the Houthis used Iranian cluster munitions in the missile their Yemeni proxy fired at Israel on Friday night.

Initial army reports stated that the missile had disintegrated in midair, but several interceptors launched to shoot down the fragments failed.

These included Israel’s Arrow, which is used for hitting targets outside the atmosphere; David’s Sling and Iron Dome, which intercept missiles closer to the ground; and the American THAAD, designed to destroy short-, medium- and intermediate-range ballistic missiles in their terminal phase.

Whether it was shrapnel from the larger missile or bomblets released in midair, debris damaged a home in Ginaton, near Ben Gurion International Airport, Israel’s main air hub.

Eighty-five-year-old Ilana Hatoumi told Ynet: “I was sitting in the shelter, I heard a boom, everything exploded — and that was it.”

“The windows shattered,” she added. “We’re fine. I’m healthy. Nothing happened that can’t be fixed. It’s just property damage.”

Her daughter said she was grateful Hatoumi had entered the safe room when the warning siren sounded in central and southern Israel before the missile landed around 6:30 p.m.

“The whole house shook,” the daughter said, but her mother was “fine,” although “a bit shaken.”

The airport briefly halted operations during the incident, but there were no significant delays in either takeoffs or landings.

According to one Houthi spokesman, the Iranian proxy launched a “Palestine 2 hypersonic ballistic missile” at Israel.

The Houthis claim the missile contains stealth technology to evade radar and other detection methods, and can reach speeds of up to Mach 16, or 16 times the speed of sound.

Unable to manufacture such advanced weapons, the Houthis rely on Iran to smuggle them into Yemen so they can form another front against Israel while Tehran maintains a façade of innocence.

Senior Houthi official Nasruddin Amer released a video — authenticity unconfirmed — that he said showed the projectile “splitting into several missiles over Israeli skies.”

He also said the missile had outmaneuvered Israel’s defense array and “reached its target, disproving enemy claims of interception.”

The clip showed several smaller lights appearing to break off from one larger light in the night sky.

During the 12-day Operation Rising Lion in June, Iran fired several cluster munitions at Israel, each dispersing a dozen or more small bomblets instead of striking a single target with one warhead.
