By World Israel News Staff

Longtime Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas is apparently preparing his son to take over his role, angering many under his authority who view the nepotistic move as yet another example of the PA’s longstanding corruption.

Abbas, 90, has led the Fatah party, which rules the Palestinian Authority, for two decades. According to polls, he is wildly unpopular among his constituents and has refused to hold elections, likely due to the probability that he would be voted out of office.

Recent meetings between senior PA officials and Abbas’ son, Yasser, along with announcements naming him a “special presidential envoy,” suggest that the nonagenarian leader is positioning his son to eventually take the reins.

Yasser Abbas, 64, has spent much of his adult life living in Canada and has reportedly amassed a fortune through various business ventures there. However, critics have long alleged that his wealth has been bolstered by the illicit funneling of Palestinian Authority funds intended for the public.

Analysts say the apparent effort to position the younger Abbas as his father’s heir is being poorly received by many Palestinians, who are already disillusioned by years without elections and accusations of corruption within the PA leadership.

“This does not resolve the frustration of the Palestinian people, as no democratic elections have taken place since 2006,” political analyst Reham Owda told Reuters.

“Rather, it increases frustration, since the public is looking forward to democratic elections, legislative and presidential elections.”

A prominent Fatah official, speaking anonymously to Reuters, suggested that promoting Yasser Abbas was so damaging that it amounted to deliberate sabotage of the party.

“Abbas is trying to make holes in the Fatah ship before [his death] by installing his son as heir to the crown,” the official claimed, stressing that the move “should be confronted and rejected by all Fatah men.”

By Khaled Abu Toameh, Gatestone Institute

As US President Donald J. Trump and members of his “Board of Peace” pledged billions of dollars for “relief and reconstruction” in the Gaza Strip, two recent public opinion polls show that most Palestinians are still concerned about widespread corruption in Palestinian society.

This concern should sound alarm bells for the Trump Administration and donor countries if they are about to invest billions of dollars in the Gaza Strip.

The Palestinians are loudly warning international donors that Palestinian leaders are not trustworthy in handling money.

According to polls conducted by the Coalition for Integrity and Accountability — a Palestinian civil society organization that seeks to combat corruption and promote integrity, transparency and accountability in Palestinian society — 57% of the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip expect the level of corruption to remain or increase in the aftermath of the war that Hamas launched on October 7, 2023.

The polls found that 90% of the Palestinians consider so-called anti-corruption efforts (by the Palestinian Authority and Hamas) insufficient.

They attributed this failure primarily to weak transparency in state institutions, weak political will to hold corrupt individuals accountable, the weak deterrent effect of applied penalties, and the absence of officials serving as role models in upholding integrity and safeguarding public resources.

Sixty-one percent of the Palestinians, in addition, said they believed that the level of corruption increased in 2025, and expected it to rise in 2026.

The results of the latest surveys do not come as a surprise. Other polls conducted by the Palestinian Center for Policy and Survey Research have consistently shown that more than 80% of the Palestinians in Judea and Samaria and Gaza Strip believe that there is corruption in institutions of the Palestinian Authority (PA).

This disclosure is important: the Palestinian Authority is expected to play a significant role in the future management of the Gaza Strip.

Recently, Nickolay Mladenov, High Representative for the “Board of Peace,” announced the establishment of a “Liaison Office” by the PA for communication and coordination regarding the board’s activities in the Gaza Strip.

The newly established National Committee for the Administration of Gaza, which is supposed to be an independent body of apolitical technocrats, is dominated by officials affiliated with the PA and its ruling Fatah faction.

Under PA President Mahmoud Abbas, many Palestinians believe corruption has deepened rather than receded. Common practices include wasta (nepotism/favoritism), misuse of public funds, and the enrichment of a political elite while the general population faces economic hardship.

Widespread disenchantment with the PA’s corruption was a primary factor in Hamas’s victory in the Palestinian Legislative Council election of 2006 (the last election held), as the terror group campaigned on a platform of “clean governance” and “reform.”

For the past 33 years, the international community has failed to track the flow and use of aid money donated to the Palestinians, enabling high-level corruption.

Tens of billions of dollars in international aid given to the Palestinian Authority and the Hamas regime in the Gaza Strip have been lost to corruption, siphoned off by terror groups or mismanaged by the PA leadership.

Since October 2023 alone, Hamas has reportedly generated an estimated $500 million by seizing humanitarian aid trucks and selling supplies to Gaza residents at inflated prices.

Corruption, mismanagement and diversion of aid have repeatedly undermined reconstruction efforts in the Gaza Strip and played a major role in preventing aid from reaching ordinary Palestinians.

Cement and construction materials intended for civilian housing have repeatedly ended up being used for Hamas’s terror tunnels and military infrastructure.

Resources that donors believed were helping build homes and schools were instead strengthening Hamas and other terror groups. Much of the donor money has been swallowed by corruption, political patronage, and the militarization of Palestinian society.

The Gaza Strip has become the only place in the world where a terror group can repeatedly wage war — funded by the international community — while that same international community pays to rebuild the battlefield afterward, possibly for the next war.

The people of the Gaza Strip urgently need humanitarian assistance, housing, infrastructure, and economic opportunity. However, pouring money into the territory without strict safeguards will not help those residents.

For decades, the Gaza Strip has been one of the most heavily funded territories in the world in terms of international aid per capita.

Yet despite the enormous financial injections, the Gaza Strip remains impoverished, unstable, and dominated by Hamas and other terrorist groups.

International aid has empowered a governing system that prioritizes rockets over reconstruction.

While donors thought they were funding hospitals and schools, Hamas was appropriating enormous resources and investing them in weapons, military infrastructure, and preparation for the next confrontation with Israel.

If the “Board of Peace” truly wants to help the Palestinians, it must abandon the illusion that money alone will solve the problem.

Any serious reconstruction effort must begin with extremely uncompromising conditions: tracking and full transparency over how funds are spent, strict monitoring of construction materials, and a clear demand that Hamas and all other terror groups lay down their weapons and permanently exit the scene.

The assumption that writing big checks will somehow produce different results has collapsed in the face of reality.

By Batya Jerenberg, World Israel News

A two-year covert police investigation culminated Monday in the simultaneous arrest or detention of dozens of senior Histadrut Labor Federation figures, public officials and top businessmen on suspicion of committing massive corruption offenses throughout the country.

Municipal officials detained for questioning included those from big cities such as Rishon Lezion and Ashdod, as well as smaller ones including Harish and Rosh Ha’ayin. One is a current mayor, and another a former city head.

In all, 52 homes and offices in 12 government authorities, six local authorities and five corporations were raided.

The suspects’ alleged misdeeds include bribery, breach of trust, money laundering, and tax offenses.

According to Hebrew media reports, a senior executive of a large insurance company who was very close to Histadrut Chairman Arnon Bar-David appointed people to jobs as heads of worker committees in local authorities and in government companies, where he made sure that many became board members.

He also allegedly offered established figures in those worker committees key positions in government-linked entities such as El Al, Israel Railways and Keren Kayemeth LeIsrael-Jewish National Fund.

In return, police allege, he received the insurance business of the employees in the affected municipalities and government corporations, which was worth millions of shekels.

Both the businessman and his son were among those arrested Monday.

The Jerusalem Post reported that Bar-David, who “operates a large insurance company,” is the one suspected of “arranging appointments to senior positions in exchange for the transfer of clients from municipalities, government companies and public bodies to his firm.”

Bar-David and his wife were also arrested in the morning raid.

These arrests are expected to be only the tip of the iceberg, as about 350 members of various workers’ committees will reportedly be questioned in the coming days and weeks about their alleged involvement in the schemes.

“This is one of the most serious cases we have ever seen,” commented Police Commissioner Danny Levy after the raids, vowing, “We will act decisively and without fear of investigating senior figures in order to get to the truth.”

“We are confident in the innocence of our people and are cooperating with law enforcement authorities. Naturally, we cannot comment on ongoing proceedings,” said Histadrut spokesperson Yaniv Levy.

By Mark Tapson, FrontPage Magazine

Inauguration Day 2025 was a great day for America, the beginning of our nation’s comeback to greatness, and the end of an era most Americans consider a steep descent into progressive madness and self-destruction.

But even as Donald J. Trump reclaimed the White House on Monday and began launching a series of orders to restore sanity and put America First, evicted tenant Joe Biden – arguably the worst President in our country’s history – raced in his final hours to set as many fires as possible on his way out the door.

Literally within the last 15 minutes of his term, for example, the doddering puppet pardoned five members of the Biden crime family – brother James Biden and wife Sara; sister Valerie and her husband John Owens; and brother Francis – to protect them from the incoming administration holding them accountable, possibly for treasonous corruption.

Wait, haven’t the Democrats been self-righteously declaring for eight years that no one is above the law, not even a President?

Biden, predictably, issued a statement, reeking of shameless hypocrisy, claiming he is merely protecting those family members from Trump’s vengeful political retaliation.

“My family has been subjected to unrelenting attacks and threats, motivated solely by a desire to hurt me — the worst kind of partisan politics,” stated the bitter, angry hypocrite.

The irony here is that it is the Democrats who have spent the last eight years targeting their political enemies – most notably their hated arch-enemy Trump – with merciless and relentless partisan lawfare. Biden’s statement accuses Trump of precisely the strategy to which his own Party has resorted:

“Baseless and politically motivated investigations wreak havoc on the lives, safety and financial security of targeted individuals and their families. Even when individuals have done nothing wrong and will ultimately be exonerated, the mere fact of being investigated or prosecuted can irreparably damage their reputations and finances.”

Yes, that is precisely why the Democrats engage in it with such fervor: it suits their politics of personal destruction. It is exactly the kind of vicious persecution the cruel J6 Committee brought to bear against the Capitol “insurrectionists,” many of whom Trump rightfully plans to pardon (when Biden pardons someone, it is to protect political cronies; when Trump pardons someone, it is because he or she has been unjustly targeted politically).

But his family’s get-out-of-jail-free card is only the culmination of a spree in which Biden passed out pre-emptive pardons like Halloween candy.

He also pardoned COVID pandemic monster Dr. Anthony Fauci, who was at the center of one of the worst crimes against humanity in the modern era; woke General Mark Milley, who fretted over the existential threat of “white rage” and once admitted that if Trump ordered an attack on China, he would call the ChiCom regime and warn them; and ironically, the members of the House committee that persecuted the J6 protesters.

“The issuance of these pardons should not be mistaken as an acknowledgment that any individual engaged in any wrongdoing, nor should acceptance be misconstrued as an admission of guilt for any offense,” Biden said in a statement.

Revealingly, that assertion runs directly counter to what the J6 prisoners were told by the Justice Department back in November, when they were threatened that accepting a future pardon from Trump would confirm their guilt:

“[A] pardon at some unspecified date in the future … would not unring the bell of conviction. In fact, quite the opposite. The defendant would first have to accept the pardon, which necessitates a confession of guilt.”

Wouldn’t that also apply to Fauci, Milley, the J6 inquisitors, Biden’s son Hunter, and the other pardoned Biden family members?

No, because as the Democrats see it, a pardon for their comrades protects them from political retribution; a pardon for Trump supporters, by contrast, damns them as guilty for all time. This is the gospel according to the Party that claims to be the standard-bearer for democracy against fascism.

True to his Party’s pro-crime stance, Biden also commuted the life sentence for Native American activist Leonard Peltier, the radical Left’s celebrity-beloved icon convicted of killing two F.B.I. agents in 1975 on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in South Dakota.

He gave a posthumous pardon to pan-African and racial separatist Marcus Garvey, whom he referred to as a “renowned civil rights and human rights leader.”

Old Joe also commuted the sentences of nearly all prisoners on federal death row to life in prison without the possibility of parole (as well as commuting the sentences of 1,500 people who were on home confinement, the largest number of commutations by a president in a single day).

Trump said after his inauguration that Biden had pardoned “political thugs” who were “very, very guilty of very bad crime.” Indeed.

Biden also issued a series of policy decisions, many of them executive actions, intended to further his agenda and to throw up roadblocks to changes Trump had promised to make.

They included, among others: removing Cuba from a list of state sponsors of terrorism; approving U.S.-supplied long-range missiles for strikes inside Russia by Ukraine, as well as supplying Ukraine with American anti-personnel mines and announcing more sanctions targeting Russia’s energy sector; cancelling student loans for more than 150,000 more borrowers (bringing the total to more than five million); and extending deportation protections for hundreds of thousands of illegal immigrants from Sudan, Ukraine, El Salvador and Venezuela.

Trump remains unruffled. “Fear not, these ‘orders’ will be terminated shortly,” he said.

Leftists are not builders; they are destroyers. This is perfectly exemplified by ex-President Joe Biden’s petulant, destructive trail of a record number of pardons, many of them pre-emptive, which set a dangerous precedent for presidential power.

“We have never had such a self-serving and corrupt president in our history,” judged my friend Peter Schweizer, bestselling author and president of the Government Accountability Institute.

Good riddance, because as Trump put it in his inaugural speech, “From this moment on, American decline is over.”

By Michael Rubin, Middle East Forum

On October 4, 2024, as fighting erupted between Israel and Hezbollah, Secretary of State Antony Blinken promised an emergency bailout to Lebanon.

“The United States will provide nearly $157 million in new U.S. humanitarian assistance to support populations affected by conflict in Lebanon and the region,” he declared.

Vice President Kamala Harris chimed in the next day, reinforcing U.S. commitment to Lebanon’s humanitarian needs and reporting, “This additional support brings total U.S. assistance to Lebanon over the last year to over $385 million.”

The question neither Blinken nor Harris answer is whether the foreign aid it gives Lebanon might actually be part of the problem. The chief job of the Lebanese Armed Forces is to defend Lebanon’s sovereignty.

The U.S. government gave each Lebanese soldier $100 per month in the last six months of the year. While some of that money leaked to Hezbollah—many Lebanese soldiers moonlight for the group—at a minimum, the Lebanese Armed Forces did not even try to fulfill its primary job.

The Lebanese government cannot point to a single militiaman disarmed, nor can the Biden administration point to any policy objective accomplished by the $220 million it gave Lebanon before Blinken’s latest emergency assistance.

While U.S. policy focuses on Hezbollah terrorism, Lebanese have a broader perspective.

Lebanese do not focus only on Hezbollah, though; they see all of their legacy politicians and political groupings, Shi’ite, Sunni, Christian and Druze to be mafia groups now more interested in dividing spoils and siphoning aid through corrupt ministries, state organizations and banks.

There is a reason why Transparency International ranks Lebanon as more corrupt than Russia and Nigeria.

Lebanese, for example, speak derisively about both Nabih Berri, the Shi’ite speaker of parliament, and his wife Randa Assi Berri, “Madame Berri” as Lebanese call her, as they whisper about her role especially in embezzlement from state projects, especially as they siphon money away from the state-run “Council for the South.”

Lebanese explain that public parks meant to restore greenery are paved over in concrete, solely because “Madame Berri” had the concrete concession. In 2006, a leaked U.S. Embassy cable reported that Berris’ wealth had already exceeded $2 billion.

They are not alone. Last month, the Lebanese government charged Riad Salameh, a Maronite Christian and Central Bank governor for three decades, with embezzling $42 million.

This was not due to a newfound commitment to transparency, Lebanese say, but rather to ensure he remains isolated in prison without bail to silence him; he knows too much about how and when various Lebanese officials used state coffers as a slush fund while running a Ponzi scheme to make the Lebanese treasury appear solvent.

In November 2020, the U.S. Department of the Treasury press release detailed how Gibran Bassil, a Maronite Christian and son-in-law of then-President Michel Aoun, channeled money to front companies owned by himself and close family members.

Forbes reported Saad Hariri, a Sunni, two-time prime minister and son of assassinated Prime Minister Rafic Hairri, is worth $1.5 billion.

The United States has no shortage of billionaires, but they are concentrated in business, tech, and finance; their fortunate may be vast, but they also produce wealth.

In Lebanon, the pattern is opposite. There is no shortage of billionaires, but they are all politicians or close relations of politicians. Corruption smothers ordinary businessmen.

None of this is secret or unknown to the White House, State Department, National Security Council, or Pentagon. Successive U.S. administrations, however, simply accept this corruption, either to buy quiet or stave off collapse.

Lower-level bureaucrats in each U.S office do not want to make waves. As too often occurs inside the U.S. government, civil servants and diplomats measure their progress by spending money, not achieving results that are more tangible.

To flood Beirut with cash as Blinken and Harris now do is incompetence. It fans corruption, finances terror and feeds dysfunction. Certainly, it is fair to ask if any U.S. funding should go to Lebanon.

The money comes from different departments and accounts, but the optics of giving Lebanon more than $100 million while Hurricane Milton bears down on Florida is daft.

Second, if the moral hazard inherent in aid trumps the risks of allowing Lebanon to collapse or others to fill the vacuum, then maybe some funding would be wise, but that does not mean that the manner in which the United States funds Lebanon is wise.

If the Biden administration or any successor wishes to do better, there is another way.

Beirut is the center of corruption, and the various Shiite, Sunni, and Christian consiglieres and Mafiosi calculate that they can access the revenue streams by embedding themselves at the center of institutions through which foreign aid passes.

Lebanon, however, is not simply its capital. There are nine governorates in Lebanon and more than two dozen districts, each of which in turn contains numerous municipalities, more than 1,000 in total.

When I visited municipalities across the country, including deep in Hezbollah and Amal territory, two commonalities emerged regardless of the dominant religion or sect:

First was frustration with Beirut and its funders and little if any money trickled down to town councils to spend it on local needs and projects. Second, none had ever had an American diplomat visit the municipal council.

Municipal councilmen say that hiding corruption at a local level would be difficult. If a town seeks to buy a garbage truck or build a new sewer, it either happens or it does not, but every resident of that town would know the status and who, if anyone, suddenly got wealthy.

Money that passes through Beirut ministries or the Council of the South remains theoretical to most Lebanese until diverted into politicians’ accounts outside.

If the United States divided its emergency aid equally across Lebanese municipalities, each would receive upwards of $150,000 that they could use to purchase tents, establish soup kitchens, or build emergency shelters.

That may not seem like much, but diplomats and the U.S. Agency for International Development can much more easily audit smaller amounts.

The question is whether Blinken will order U.S. diplomats to work with town councils or leave the embassy compound’s fortified walls.

If not, then he knowingly wastes American aid and enabled Hezbollah embezzlement. If he cites safety concerns, so be it.

The follow-up questions must then be: Why did the United States not fund municipalities while Lebanon was at peace, and do Blinken and Harris believe that Lebanese will be more honest about supervision about how they spend American grants?

The first rule of holes is to stop digging when stuck in a pit. Decades of U.S. funding, however, have effectively turned U.S. policy in Lebanon into a canyon. It is time to stop digging.

By Reuters and The Washington Free Beacon

New York City mayor Eric Adams has been indicted after a federal corruption investigation, but the indictment is sealed and it is unclear what charges he will face, the New York Times reported on Wednesday, citing people with knowledge of the matter.

The charges come after the FBI last November searched Adams’ electronic devices, and in the wake of a slew of resignations by top city officials in recent weeks as multiple federal corruption investigations entangle his administration.

A spokesman for the U.S. Attorney’s office in Manhattan, which brought the charges, declined to comment. Adams’ lawyers did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

One of his lawyers has said that the mayor, a Democrat, was cooperating with an investigation but did not say what it was about.

The case is likely to complicate any Adams bid for re-election in 2025. Other Democratic politicians, including New York City comptroller Brad Lander, plan to challenge Adams—once a key ally of President Joe Biden—for the party’s nomination.

The Times, citing a search warrant, reported in early November 2023 that federal authorities were investigating the possible acceptance by Adams’ 2021 campaign of illegal donations, including by the Turkish government.

The probe, conducted by the U.S. Attorney’s office in Manhattan, focused on whether Adams’ 2021 mayoral campaign conspired with a Brooklyn construction company to funnel foreign money into the campaign through a straw-donor scheme, the Times said.

Authorities have also sought information about Adams’ interactions with Israel, China, Qatar, South Korea and Uzbekistan, according to the Times.

By Daniel Greenfield, Frontpage Magazine

Kamala Harris is running as a prosecutor, but a lot of her old friends are in prison.

Having the FBI knock on your door was an occupational hazard in Kamala’s San Francisco circles where her boyfriend, future Mayor Willie Brown, took her to Nob Hill parties by night, and by day appointed her to boards where she earned hundreds of thousands for showing up.

But the biggest favor Willie did for Kamala wasn’t buying her a BMW, flying her to New York City on Trump’s plane, or accompanying him to the Oscars: it was buying her a political career.

A few years after their fling, the FBI would begin its 5-year investigation of San Francisco city government.

Kamala’s sugar daddy had been the focus of investigations going back two decades.

Kamala Harris claimed that she had become a prosecutor to fight for justice, but when she was dating the married Brown, he had been the focus of FBI investigations going back to when she had been a teenager.

It did not deter her. If anything, just the opposite.

What did Brown see in Kamala beyond the obvious?

The California pol with legal troubles behind him and in front of him plucked the deputy DA from obscurity, introduced her to the wealthy and powerful, and put her on a track to becoming the city’s DA and state attorney general just as he was making the transition from Assembly Speaker to San Francisco mayor.

“I would think it’s fair to say that most of the people in San Francisco met her through Willie,” the former chairman of the California Democratic Party noted.

With her bank account fattened by the $400,000 received from her role on Brown’s boards and more importantly on a first name basis with top donors, Kamala was ready to start moving up the ladder.

And a few years later she was working in San Francisco City Hall. With Willie Brown wrapping up his final term in office, Kamala began preparing to run to be San Francisco’s DA.

The 2003 election saw Willie Brown’s proteges and pals, Gavin Newsom and Kamala Harris, take control of San Francisco politics.

Kamala ran with Brown’s backing to unseat a DA who had been investigating Brown’s donors.

If the Brown machine was going to go on running San Francisco, it needed an ally in the DA’s office to protect its corrupt way of doing business.

Before the election, the Brown machine left nothing to chance by calling on the services of Mohammed Nuru: a Nigerian immigrant calling himself ‘Mr. Clean’ during his tenure at the city’s Department of Public Works.

Nuru had gotten started with SLUG: a social justice community gardening organization that doubled as an election turnout operation.

Nuru had been accused of using SLUG employees to campaign for Willie Brown if they wanted to keep their jobs.

SLUG loyalists then took over the DPW and were deployed to help Newsom and Kamala win.

SLUG employees, many of them homeless or ex-cons, were forced to cast absentee ballots at a Kamala event.

Kamala’s campaign manager admitted to being in contact with Nuru during the election and SLUG workers filled up her events.

News reports described employees being forced to ride “in vans organized by Harris to the Department of Elections at City Hall, where they were pressured by SLUG crew chiefs to cast absentee ballots for Newsom” and then “asked them to turn over their voter stubs.

One street cleaner even said a crew chief peered over her shoulder as she voted.”

District Attorney Kamala offered to investigate the allegations that she had been elected through the ugliest kind of machine politics and voter intimidation.

Much like her promises to investigate Willie Brown, that went nowhere. When Nuru was finally arrested, it was after an FBI investigation.

Despite Willie Brown paying his legal fees, ‘Mr. Clean’ was sentenced to 7 years in prison.

A large part of the legacy of Kamala, along with other top prosecutors, and the rest of the Brown machine was a local and state government too corrupt to investigate itself.

Attorney General Kamala Harris did not take long to show why state officials could not be trusted to investigate their own political allies.

Kamala claimed that she was dedicated to fighting the sexual abuse of women and girls, but she had carefully turned a blind eye to what was happening in Brown’s inner circle.

As attorney general, she went on doing the same thing.

In her first year in office, Kamala endorsed Rep. Bob Filner in his race for San Diego mayor.

A year later, women began coming forward accusing the Progressive Caucus co-founder of groping and sexually harassing them.

His alleged victims included a great-grandmother and rape survivors among over 30 women. His tactics included putting victims in a headlock.

Despite the parade of victims, some of them ex-military and a future congresswoman and a reported 90 witnesses, the man now being dubbed ‘Filthy Filner’ had nothing to worry about.

The local DA recused herself and the state attorney general stepped in to take her place even though she had been a political supporter of the man she was cutting a plea deal with.

“This prosecution is about consequence and accountability. No one is above the law,” Attorney General Kamala Harris falsely claimed.

The plea deal that Kamala cut for her political ally gave him 90 days of house arrest and some therapy.

Filner did not even have to register as a sex offender. That was quite a light sentence for charges that involved misdemeanor battery and false imprisonment.

Around the same time, a 75-year-old man had been sent to jail for six months for groping a court reporter, but Kamala allowed Filner, who had gone after multiple women, and had been accused of inflicting chokeholds on some of them, to just walk away.

Some indeed were above the law. And that was why Kamala had been elevated to where she was.

Attorney General Kamala Harris became famous for politicizing investigations and turning her office into a front in the culture wars.

But just as it was important which cases she took on that she should not have, like the prosecution of undercover investigators of her Planned Parenthood backers to score points with the state’s big political donors, equally revealing were the cases she chose to ignore that involved misconduct by political allies and their friends.

Kamala refused to investigate corruption in Hercules, CA, claiming that “local governments are primarily responsible for resolving complaints involving local government employees or agencies.”

Rather than investigate mismanagement of the state’s giant CalPERS pension fund, she shook down big banks to prop up the failing funds.

She likewise refused to dig into corruption in Caltrans, eventually settling for a single scapegoat.

Likewise her failure to seriously go after PG&E led to wildfires and a deepening energy crisis in California.

But Attorney General Kamala Harris had learned all too well at the feet of Willie Brown what it took to succeed in California politics.

Instead of fighting crime, she helped unleash a crime wave.

The future senator and vice president neglected basic law enforcement in favor of picking battles over illegal aliens, gay marriage and abortion that would be popular with donors.

And she was careful to avoid taking on the big power blocs and special interests running the state.

Kamala had not run to be district attorney or attorney general to enforce the law, but to use them as stepping stones for higher office.

Inept as a prosecutor, Kamala provided a distraction by cloaking the state’s good old boy politics in a skirt, leftist agitprop and some diversity.

Her wealthy donors thrilled with her radical political activism and opened up their wallets and purses.

At a fundraiser in San Francisco, her megadonor finance chair recalled, “we’d go around with the bag and collect the money.”

Kamala’s fundraising broke records and went on breaking records.

That river of money would not have been possible without the political connections forged by Mayor Willie Brown and by the perception of some of the state’s powerful and wealthy donors that Kamala had their back.

As Kamala continues to break records, money has once again poured in from Silicon Valley, Wall Street, Hollywood and some of the most corrupt industries in the country.

What is it that they love so much about Kamala Harris? The same thing that Willie Brown did.

Looks come and go but a corruptible moral compass lasts forever.

By Pesach Benson, TPS

Israeli Police investigators probing corruption raided the Ministry of Transportation’s Jerusalem offices and seizing documents on Monday amid allegations that Transportation Minister Miri Regev and other officials gave preferential treatment to local authorities that supported her in the Likud party primaries.

According to the police, Attorney General Gali Baharav-Miara and State Attorney Amit Aisman ordered the investigation “on suspicion of crimes in the field of ethical [misconduct] and interfering in legal proceedings that were allegedly done in the Transportation Ministry.”

The allegations were first raised in May in an investigative report aired on Israel’s Channel 13.

The report claimed, among other things, that decisions on transportation projects were often based on the number of votes the area’s municipal leaders had garnered for Regev in the Likud party primaries.

Localities that showed more support for Regev received preferential treatment. Regev denies the allegations.

“The truth is simple: it is a fabricated investigation. There was no preferential treatment based on politics. The Transportation Ministry allocates its budget according to policy and the decisions of professional entities. Any other claim is false,” she said.

Likud last held primaries in 2019. Regev placed ninth on the party list.

By Michael Rubin, Middle East Forum

The rot surrounding the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East keeps accumulating.

Not only did the UNRWA allow Hamas command posts under local hospitals and the UNRWA’s own headquarters, but UNRWA employees hid weaponry in their homes and then reportedly participated in the Oct. 7 kidnappings in Israel.

Some employees held Israeli civilians hostage in the aftermath of the mass kidnapping.

Israel alleges that 10% of UNRWA employees are Hamas members, a figure that, if anything, seems low.

Nevertheless, the U.N. response has been to obfuscate, bluster, and deny evidence.

It is impossible to ignore the implication of hundreds of miles of Hamas tunnels built with diverted supplies under the nose of UNRWA employees.

Meanwhile, U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres deflects.

While the U.N. says it has fired some UNRWA employees about whom Israel provided evidence, the fact that the UNRWA has not handed over employees complicit in kidnapping to face justice in Israel shows it is more interested in covering up the scandal.

The UNRWA scandal reflects decades of corruption, mismanagement, and incompetent leadership at the helm of both the agency and the United Nations, but the likelihood that it will be the U.N.’s last scandal is nil.

Recent history suggests the U.N. simply does not learn as scandals repeat.

There was a pro forma attempt to investigate the Oil-for-Food scandal, though then-Secretary-General Kofi Annan successfully diluted the inquiry into the multibillion-dollar kickback scheme because it touched too many in power, including Annan himself.

Peacekeeper scandals repeat.

U.N. employees in several different peacekeeping missions across Africa coerced sex in exchange for food and aid, sometimes even victimizing children.

The U.N. continues to ignore a UNRWA-like scandal in the Democratic Republic of Congo with members of the Pakistan contingent radicalizing and providing aid to the Allied Democratic Forces, the local Islamic State.

In 2010, U.N. peacekeepers dumped sewage into a river in Haiti, sparking a cholera outbreak that killed nearly 10,000 in a country that, until then, was cholera-free.

The U.N. stonewalled to avoid paying compensation to the victims.

The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees is also prone to scandal.

Twice, after riots at the Kakuma refugee camp in Kenya, the UNHCR cut off food assistance and water access to its population, including women and children, until residents of the camp rebuilt destroyed structures.

Collective punishment is a crime by any interpretation of the law, but U.N. officials engaged in it with impunity.

As U.N. scandals accumulate, it is foolish to believe that Guterres has any more interest in policing his organization than any of his predecessors.

In certain countries and territories, U.N. corruption claims more lives than its interventions save.

Back to Gaza: Western donors have responded to the participation of U.N. employees in the massacre of Jews by pausing some funding, even if only temporarily.

Any shortfall of funding grabs the attention of U.N. agencies whose employees fly business class and who enjoy a lifestyle akin to 19th-century colonial officers.

But suave public relations, effective lobbying to whitewash corruption, and crying wolf about humanitarian hardship often lead to the quick restoration of funding.

Perhaps a better approach, then, would be to strip U.N. officials of the immunities they enjoy in the countries where they serve.

If Nepalese peacekeepers or the U.N. bureaucrats who supervised them had realized they could face negligent homicide charges for killing 10,000 Haitians, perhaps they would have thought twice about dumping sewage in a river Haitians relied on for drinking water in the first place.

Likewise, U.N. officials in Kenya would think twice about collective punishment against Somali refugees if they faced charges in the Hague for gross violations of international law.

Even Guterres might have acted proactively against UNRWA corruption had its supervisors risked charges of accessory to murder for their underlings moonlighting as Hamas combatants with U.N. property.

Conventions granted U.N. workers diplomatic immunity to prevent retaliation by rogue regimes.

However, as U.N. workers go rogue, perhaps it is time to reconsider the diplomatic privileges they enjoy.

If nongovernmental workers live without immunity, U.N. bureaucrats can as well.

The post The U.N. won’t reform until its employees lose diplomatic immunity appeared first on World Israel News.

By Batya Jerenberg, World Israel News

An Opposition MK went on record Monday that he’d consider joining a unity government even though his party has rejected the idea outright.

Yesh Atid’s Elazar Stern told Army Radio in an interview that he would be “very happy if such a suggestion would go on the table” and that his faction would then discuss it.

“I was never against the possibility of an extremist-free unity government,” the former intelligence minister said.

Party sources immediately reacted negatively to Haaretz, stating that Stern stood alone with his opinion.

“It wouldn’t be unity but a Netanyahu government that would continue to lie to the public, and as we promised, we will not sit under an accused prime minister,” they said.

Three corruption cases combined into one expanded trial are still ongoing against the prime minister, who has been charged with fraud, breach of trust and bribery. As yet, he has not been proven guilty, with some saying the crimes were invented in order to destroy him. The trial is expected to continue for at least several more months.

Party head and Opposition leader MK Yair Lapid also made it clear last month that he would never agree to a unity government.

“I am a decent person, and this would be the death of decency,” he told Ynet. “If we declare that there is no opposition in Israel to the idea of corruption and to the destruction of all Israeli values … this does not save the country, it destroys everything that this country represents.”

Stern tempered his remarks by saying such a coalition would be highly unlikely as the offer would have to “come from the Prime Minister,” and “Netanyahu has not said that he’s ready.”

Two weeks ago, when certain Likud members floated the idea of a national unity government., Stern told Ynet that he would not immediately rule it out because “I’m a man of unity, I’ve always said that,” but that “the first step to unity must be a call from the prime minister who destroyed the country.”

According to an Israel Hayom survey taken at that time, just after the coalition pushed through the emendation of the reasonableness clause as its first, and so far only, judicial reform, against massive public protests, a national unity government was the most popular choice of the respondents, at 35%. Only 29% preferred the current coalition, while 27% opted for a Center-Left government.

By Tim Graham, FrontPage Magazine

Everyone paying attention to the latest revelations about Hunter Biden and his energetically supportive father knows that journalists and Republican officials have opened a vein, or “the walls are closing in.” Even so, the leftist media are trying to report as little of this damaging scandal material as they possibly can.

We can scarcely imagine the anxious political chatter inside pro-Biden newsrooms, but let’s imagine it sounds something like Jen Psaki’s MSNBC show. Psaki brought all her persuasive pressure on former Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan to recant how he tweeted former President Donald Trump and President Joe Biden were both unpopular and “both potentially face very serious legal troubles.” It should apparently be unthinkable to compare them. Psaki argued, “Hunter Biden is not in office, he’s not serving in government … not equivalent!”

New scoops are underlining this is a Joe Biden scandal. The New York Post reported Hunter Biden’s former business partner and friend, Devon Archer, will be testifying that he put Joe Biden on the phone with his business associates from Burisma at least two dozen times. That’s worse than the story of Hunter intimidating foreign clients by claiming his dad is in the room, listening in.

The website Business Insider reported Hunter Biden made $1.3 million for his amateurish watercolor paintings. One unknown buyer spent $875,000 on “artworks.” Joe Biden appointed one buyer, Elizabeth Hirsh Naftali, to a prestigious commission.

The Washington Free Beacon added that Naftali has visited the White House at least 13 times since December 2021, including a meeting with senior Biden adviser Neera Tanden. All of Naftali’s visits occurred after Hunter Biden’s first art show opened in New York in November 2021.

The Washington Examiner found a close personal friend and aide to the Biden family appears to have worked for years in the Delaware U.S. Attorney’s office under David Weiss, including when the Hunter Biden probe began.

Democrats are clearly telling their journalistic allies that you can’t cover stories like this on the Biden scandals because to cover them automatically means that Biden and Trump both face “serious legal troubles.” They cover Trump scandals so meticulously, hour after hour after hour, that one screen on MSNBC’s “Andrea Mitchell Reports” simply said this: “DC Grand Jury Meets As Possible New Indictment Looms.”

This is their business model. “Grand Jury Meets” is worth hours of airtime, and “Possible New Indictment” can be a news hook for weeks. Meanwhile, even those network stars who are tiptoeing on the Biden investigations sound extremely tentative.

On CNN’s “State of the Union,” host Dana Bash could only ask Rep. Nancy Pelosi about Hunter Biden probes, “Are you confident the politics did not play a role here?” This is like asking, “Are you sure humans are made up of molecules?” This only cued Pelosi to disparage Republican hearings as a “ridiculous clown show.”

On CBS’s “Face the Nation,” host Margaret Brennan told former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie that the Biden Justice Department’s sweetheart plea deal with Hunter “infuriated” Republicans, but, “I wonder, after this plea happens, if you would advise your party to move on?”

Christie said no, but what kind of question is this? Would she ask Democrats whether they should just move on from their Trump investigations? This question isn’t about holding the Bidens accountable. It’s a journalist demanding that the Bidens should be in charge of handling the Bidens.

The media elites did not vet Joe Biden before he won the 2020 election. They spent the 2020 election cycle protecting him like a journalistic Secret Service. Their protection racket continues and should be obvious to anyone who observes the press in action — or inaction.

By Andrew Kerr, Washington Free Beacon

When the late Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg accepted a $1 million prize from a liberal billionaire’s foundation, she pledged to pass the money to a list of designated charities. Four years later, it is unclear where Ginsburg sent that money—an ambiguity that experts say raises conflict of interest concerns.

The Berggruen Institute, a private foundation founded by billionaire investor Nicolas Berggruen, awarded Ginsburg its annual $1 million Philosophy & Culture award during a swanky star-studded event in December 2019. At the time, ethics experts raised red flags over Ginsburg’s acceptance of the prize, noting that the bounty far exceeded the $2,000 limit placed on honoraria by Judicial Conference regulations. But Ginsburg temporarily assuaged those concerns when she pledged to donate the prize money to more than 60 charities that reflected her personal causes, including the American Bar Foundation, the American Cancer Society, and the Metropolitan Opera.

What Ginsburg failed to mention was that she also directed the Berggruen Institute to conceal the full list of her designated charities from the public, a spokeswoman for the institute told the Washington Free Beacon. The Berggruen Institute even engaged in some creative accounting in its Form 990 tax return to ensure the recipients remain shrouded in secrecy.

“That list, per her wishes, is not for publication,” Berggruen Institute spokeswoman Rachel Bauch told the Free Beacon.

Experts say the lack of transparency surrounding Ginsburg’s $1 million prize raises the possibility that some of the recipients could have had business before the court prior to Ginsburg’s death. One of the few known recipients, the American Bar Foundation, is affiliated with the American Bar Association, which filed several amicus briefs before the Supreme Court in 2020 before Ginsburg’s death. There is no evidence that Ginsburg recused herself from those cases.

The Berggruen Institute’s refusal to disclose which groups profited from Ginsburg’s $1 million prize comes as mainstream media outlets such as ProPublica have worked to instill a crisis of confidence in the Supreme Court over alleged ethical transgressions from conservative justices Clarence Thomas and Samuel Alito. Democrats such as Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse (D., R.I.) and Sen. Dick Durbin (D., Ill.) have seized on the reports to push a Supreme Court ethics law that Republicans say would overstep congressional authority. The Senate Judiciary Committee will vote on the bill Thursday.

But experts told the Free Beacon that the left’s lack of interest in potential ethical lapses from Ginsburg betrays the partisan motivation behind their attacks.

“Ginsburg required that her list of entities she showered with funds be confidential, and we don’t know how many of them appeared before the Court when Justice Ginsburg was serving,” said former Office of Management and Budget general counsel Mark Paoletta, a longtime friend of Justice Clarence Thomas. “With all of the Left’s wailing about transparency, this is the antithesis—but crickets from the Left. They don’t care about ethics. They just want to attack the Court because it is no longer acting like a super legislature to enact unpopular progressive policies like affirmative action.”

Nonprofit groups are typically required to disclose the names of groups they provided grants to in their public Form 990 tax returns. The Berggruen Institute evaded this disclosure by reporting Ginsburg’s prize on its 2019 Form 990 financial disclosure as an expense.

Former IRS tax law specialist Patrick Sternal described the institute’s accounting maneuver as a “workaround to the disclosure of the ultimate recipients of the funds.”

“There is some legal gray area here, but the foundation should probably have treated the prize as a grant, not a line-item other expense,” Sternal told the Free Beacon. “It’s strange that [Ginsburg] didn’t want to make the recipients’ names public.”

Paul Kamenar, an attorney with the National Legal and Policy Center watchdog group, also said the Berggruen Institute should have disclosed the identity of the charities designated by Ginsburg in its financial disclosure.

Nicolas Berggruen, the institute’s founder, told the New York Times in 2022 that he had a “very left-wing” upbringing. But the billionaire investor claimed he wasn’t involved in awarding Ginsburg the philosophy prize in 2019. That decision was left to the Berggruen Prize Jury, which in 2019 included former University of Pennsylvania president Amy Gutmann.

The year prior, Gutmann helped Hunter Biden’s academically subpar daughter secure a ticket to the prestigious university at the behest of President Joe Biden, the Free Beacon reported. Gutmann became Biden’s ambassador to Germany in January 2022.

Ginsburg’s acceptance of the Berggruen Institute prize is hardly the only ethical lapse from the late justice, according to the liberal group Fix the Court. In 2018, Ginsburg embarked on a private tour of Israel paid for by billionaire Morris Khan just one year after the Supreme Court issued a ruling in favor of his company Amdocs. Ginsburg did not recuse herself from that case.

Ginsburg also attacked former President Donald Trump during a CNN interview in the lead up to his 2016 victory, saying she couldn’t “imagine what the country would be with Donald Trump as our president.” She later apologized for her remarks, but did not recuse herself from any case that the former president was a party to.
Other liberal justices have come under fire in recent weeks.

Supreme Court justice Sonya Sotomayor earned $3.7 million in book sales since joining the Court in 2009, thanks in no small part to using her taxpayer-funded staff to push colleges and other institutions to buy her books when she speaks at events, the Associated Press reported.

“The utter lack of curiosity from Senators Whitehouse and Durbin about liberal justices’ behavior only underscores their real motive,” Judicial Crisis Network president Carrie Severino told the Free Beacon. “Their sham charges against conservative justices aren’t about ethics but are instituting a new McCarthyism attacking their political enemies.”

By World Israel News Staff

The “missing witness” from the Biden corruption investigation, Israeli professor Dr. Gal Luft, has laid out his bribery allegations against the president’s family in an extraordinary video filmed in an undisclosed location while he’s on the run, perhaps for the rest of his life.

In a 14-minute video obtained by The New York Post, Luft accused Biden of bribery, stating that the president received payments from individuals linked to Chinese military intelligence. He also alleged the presence of an FBI mole sharing classified information with the China-controlled energy company CEFC. Luft supported his claims by providing details of a meeting at the Four Seasons Hotel in Washington DC, attended by Biden, his son Hunter, and officials from CEFC.

“The notion that I, Gal Luft, spoonfed a CIA director with policy proposals on China, treating him like a useful idiot is not only an insult to the intelligence community, it is an insult to the intelligence of every American,” he said.

Luft expressed his position as a whistleblower in the video, stating he informed the U.S. government about a potential security breach and compromising information about Biden. He described his fear of being hunted by the same people he informed, potentially needing to live on the run for the rest of his life. He clarified that his motivations were apolitical, and his actions were driven by the fear that the Bidens coming to power could lead to a scandal similar to Russia collusion, only this time involving China.
