After bragging about marrying a Gazan to commit immigration fraud, a California teacher is now claiming she is “wildly in love” with her spouse.

A far-left teacher and pro-Palestinian activist who publicly claimed during a webinar that she entered into a fraudulent marriage with a Gazan man to help him obtain U.S. citizenship will face criminal prosecution, according to an official from U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS).

Laura Pinho, a dance teacher at Canoga Park Senior High School in Los Angeles, said during an online meeting of activists that she had sought to “equalize the playing field on whatever way that I can” by transmitting her U.S. citizenship to a man she described as a Gazan refugee through what is commonly known as a “green card marriage.”

Pinho made the remarks during a CodePink webinar titled “Challenging Zionism in Our Schools,” in which she spoke at length about the marriage and portrayed it as an act of political activism.

According to reports, Pinho married the man, identified by the New York Post as Salem S.E. Abu Amra, in a virtual ceremony conducted over Zoom under procedures authorized by the state of Utah. The two have reportedly never met in person.

A USCIS official told the Post that Pinho’s public comments could trigger significant legal consequences.

USCIS spokesman Zach Kahler said that Pinho “should expect to be discovered and prosecuted for this illegal activity.”

He added that “USCIS is constantly enhancing its investigative capabilities and will aggressively pursue individuals who engage in marriage fraud in an effort to obtain immigration benefits.”

It remains unclear whether Pinho has taken any formal immigration steps to bring Abu Amra to the United States.

According to the Post, a review of Abu Amra’s social media accounts found posts praising a slain terrorist as a martyr.

When confronted by the newspaper about her remarks, Pinho claimed the marriage is genuine and that she is “wildly in love” with Abu Amra.

She added that she only described the marriage as fraudulent during the webinar because her former boyfriend was within earshot in their shared home.

According to the Post, Pinho continues to live with her former boyfriend, with whom she shares a five-year-old child.

Speaking to the Post, Pinho’s former boyfriend said he was unaware that she had gotten married.

“She’s been radicalized — I don’t know anything about that,” he said, adding that he was “worried for her.”

These include messages calling to “stop Israeli terror,” images replacing Israel with “Palestine,” and statements suggesting Israelis should experience the conditions in Gaza.

Officers are also directed to pay particular attention to individuals involved in on-campus protests described as anti-American or antisemitic and to escalate such cases to senior officials and legal teams within the agency.

The policy is part of a broader shift in how immigration authorities assess applicants’ ideological positions.

Job postings for immigration enforcement roles have reportedly begun referring to officers as “homeland defenders,” with language emphasizing the protection of national culture.

Additional examples flagged in the training materials include support for “subversive” ideologies, such as advocating the overthrow of the US government or burning the American flag, though such acts are protected forms of expression under US law.

The reported changes are likely to raise legal and political debate over the balance between national security screening and freedom of expression in the immigration process.
