Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi lashed out at Israeli news outlet Israel Hayom and its publisher, Miriam Adelson, following a report alleging that Iran continued carrying out executions despite assurances to Washington aimed at averting a U.S. strike.

In a post on X, Araghchi dismissed the report as politically motivated. “Whenever Miriam Adelson’s mouthpiece pushes a dramatic claim about Iran, it’s worth asking who it serves,” he wrote.

He suggested the timing was deliberate, noting the article appeared “just an hour before Netanyahu’s White House visit,” and accused the outlet of attempting to create the impression that Iran had “deceived” President Donald Trump.

Rejecting the allegations outright, Araghchi stated: “The facts: no executions have taken place, no court process has been concluded, and more than 2,000 prisoners have been pardoned.”

He added, “Before buying the narrative being peddled, consider who benefits from it—and who may actually be doing the deceiving.”

Whenever Miriam Adelson’s mouthpiece pushes a dramatic claim about Iran, it’s worth asking who it serves. Even the U.S. President has acknowledged where her primary loyalties lie.

Israel Hayom, a free Hebrew-language daily and the most widely distributed newspaper in Israel, is owned by the family of the late Sheldon Adelson and is widely regarded as having a right-leaning editorial stance.

The report at the center of the dispute claimed that in early January, as U.S. forces advanced toward the Gulf, Araghchi and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian conveyed messages to Washington promising that executions of protesters would cease in order to prevent a potential American strike.

According to the report, President Trump later presented the halt as an achievement that helped delay military action.

However, citing intelligence assessments from Western agencies, including the Mossad as well as British and German services, the article alleged that executions continued but were concealed, with detainees allegedly killed in custody and deaths attributed to unrest.

The dispute unfolds amid heightened tensions over U.S.–Iran negotiations and shortly after Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s three-hour meeting with President Trump at the White House.

After examining the bids that were submitted, Israel Hayom’s bid to acquire the activities of newspaper Makor Rishon and the internet site NRG were higher than the other offers.

Pro-Israel Jewish philanthropist Sheldon Adelson, owner of the free daily newspaper Israel Hayom, has outbid Jerusalem Post owner Eli Azor in acquiring Israel’s flailing newspaper Makor Rishon and news website NRG.

According to Hen Berdichev, the trustee appointed by the Jerusalem District Court to handle the bidding off of Makor Rishon and NRG,  Azor was unwilling to match Adelson’s 14 million shekel bid on Makor Rishon and 3 million shekel bid on NRG.

“After examining the bids that were submitted, Israel Hayom‘s bid to acquire the activities of newspaper Makor Rishon and the internet site NRG were higher than the other offers in all parameters, to a meaningful and obvious degree, in terms of the sum and in terms of the numbers of workers that it obligated to continue to employ,” said Berdichev.

Because Adelson holds Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in high esteem, the prime minister’s detractors tried to curb Israel Hayom’s political influence by introducing a law in 2014 designed to prohibit the distribution of daily newspapers free of charge.

In 2014, the Knesset approved the preliminary reading of the proposed “Israel Hayom Law,” but it never reached the plenum for a second vote.

The billionaire has shown much support for the Jewish State over the years.

Israel’s historic $100 million effort to reach the moon with the Beresheet lunar module was financed largely by Adelson.

Adelson has reportedly offered to donate $500 million toward the construction of the new U.S. Embassy in Jerusalem.

Netanyahu took to Facebook in an attempt to ward off corruption claims that have received media attention.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu assailed the Israeli media for an “unprecedented” campaign to bring down his government through the “extensive” publication of stories alleging he is corrupt.

He posted on Facebook on Sunday a comprehensive message in an effort to refute repeated reports by the media on the meetings that took place between him and Yedioth Ahronoth publisher Noni Mozes, during which the two allegedly offered to exchange favors.

“In recent days, an orchestrated media campaign has been conducted, unprecedented in its extensiveness, in order to bring down the Likud government under my leadership. This propaganda campaign is intended to exert pressure on the attorney general and other officials in the state attorney’s office to submit an indictment against me,” Netanyahu charged.

“The method is simple: day after day and evening after evening, carefully selected and filtered transcripts and deliberate lies on two issues at hand are disseminated. Obviously, as long as the investigation continues, I have no way of defending myself. I cannot tell the public the real story behind these issues, that clarify that there was no wrongdoing,” the post continued.

Netanyahu did however relate to two points relevant to the investigation, the first being that he opposed the Israel Hayom Law throughout the years. The law was meant to shut down the Israel Hayom daily publication, a main competitor of Yedioth Ahronoth’s . Netanyahu contends that this negates claims made by the media that he intended to support the law in exchange for favorable coverage from Yedioth Ahronoth.

Netanyahu also pointed to the fact that he brought down his own government over the Israel Hayom Law, and when he established a new one he ensured that the law would not be resubmitted by his new coalition. Netanyahu intended this point as a refutation of reports of collusion between himself and Mozes.

Second, Netanyahu pointed out that Yedioth never altered its coverage of his government.

“Therefore – nothing has happened,” he wrote. ”Israel Hayom is still in business and is thriving. However, the bad press I have been receiving from Ynet and Yedioth Ahronoth did not cease for a moment.”

“Thus – the claims that I worked to promote the Israel Hayom Law are baseless,” he concluded.

Israeli media has been reporting for over a week that Netanyahu and Mozes made a pact in which Netanyahu proposed to use his power to curb the power of Yedioth’s main rival, Israel Hayom, through the passage of a law favoring Yedioth, in return for Yedioth’s reduction of negative coverage of Netanyahu’s Likud government.

Netanyahu has repeatedly denied any wrongdoing and calls the allegations a witch hunt by a ‘hostile media’ against him and his family.

Both Netanyahu  and Mozes have been questioned by police in connection with the alleged pact, which is being investigated as a possible case of bribery.

Netanyahu is currently under investigation for other corruption related cases as well.
