Local politicians in a Muslim-majority Michigan city are at the center of a growing election fraud scandal, after being caught on camera stuffing absentee ballots into a collection box — an action that prosecutors say represents a flagrant violation of state election law.

Four members of the city council of Hamtramck, a Detroit suburb where more than 70 percent of residents are Muslim, are under investigation, with two already facing criminal charges.

Councilman Muhtasin Sadman has been charged with forging a signature on an absentee ballot application, forgery, two counts of an unqualified elector attempting to vote, and making a false statement on an absentee ballot application.

Fellow Councilman Mohammed Hassan faces charges of forgery, forging a signature on an absentee ballot application, and making a false statement on a ballot application.

If convicted, Sadman and Hassan could face up to five years in prison.

The case began in March, when a Hamtramck city clerk noticed that a suspiciously large number of absentee ballots had identical handwriting and were submitted in bulk.

An investigation by the Monroe County Prosecutor’s Office later uncovered video evidence of Sadman feeding dozens of ballots into a collection receptacle while another man —believed to be Hassan — handed him stacks of envelopes.

The authenticity of the footage, which leaked online, was confirmed by Michigan State Police.

According to an internal document written by Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel, Sadman, Hassan, and four other suspects “conspired to receive unvoted absentee ballots that had been signed by recently naturalized citizens, and to then fill in the candidates of their choosing.”

The document alleges the group paid voters for their cooperation “in order to gain an advantage in local elections.”

Two other council members, Abu Musa and Mohammed Alsomiri, are also suspected of involvement but have not yet been charged.

A former intern who worked on far-left mayoral hopeful Zohran Mamdani‘s campaign described anti-Israel protests in the U.S. as part of an Islamic holy war against Israel, encouraging Muslims to participate in the demonstrations, regardless of potential consequences.

“The true believer knows that none of this is in vain, that this is all Jihad,” said Hadeeqa Arzoo Malik in a clip from a webinar, which she posted to her LinkedIn page.

The video, which was viewed by the New York Post, featured Malik encouraging Muslims to fully commit to the struggle to destroy Israel, without considering the ramifications for their professional and academic careers.

“If you get suspended, if you get doxed, because it’s bound to happen… when you’re doing something for the sake of Allah here in the West…it will never, ever be in vain, and the true believer does not fear that?” Malik continued.

Stressing that pro-Palestinian activists are battling alleged Israeli “genocide and colonization and settler colonialism,” Malik said that any Muslim on the sidelines of the fight is mentally unwell.

“If you’re not seeing this as your issue to deal with, then something is wrong, there is an illness, there is a disease, something messing up the system inside that’s telling you this isn’t your business,” she said.

Malik, a student at City College of New York (CCNY), made her comments during a webinar promoting Islamic political activism, organized by anti-Israel campus group CUNY4Palestine.

Mamdani’s campaign declined to comment to the Post regarding the revelations about Malik’s radical beliefs.

In a previous clip featuring the activist that went viral, Malik was seen berating a New York City police officer whom she believed to be Muslim.

“Let’s read the badges of the pigs,” Malik is heard saying in the video, as she reads the names of officers stationed to maintain order at an anti-Israel protest.

When Malik came across an officer whose last name suggested he is Muslim, she began mocking the man.

“To the pigs who can call themselves by the name of Islam — put some respect on their names!” she is heard yelling.

President-elect Donald Trump named Lebanese-American billionaire Massad Boulos, Tiffany Trump’s father-in-law, as adviser on Arab and Middle East Affairs, the New York Post reports.

“Massad is an accomplished lawyer and a highly respected leader in the business world, with extensive experience on the International scene,” Trump, 78, wrote on Truth Social.

“He has been a longtime proponent of Republican and Conservative values, an asset to my Campaign, and was instrumental in building tremendous new coalitions with the Arab American Community,” he added.

Massad Boulos runs Boulos Enterprises, a Nigeria-based company specializing in mechanical equipment and motorcycles.

Boulos also serves as CEO of the SCOA Nigeria conglomerate, which deals with power plants, buses, construction, and the importation of fine foods.

Tiffany Trump, who has a law degree from Georgetown and has largely stayed out of the public eye, married Michael Boulos in 2022.

“Massad is a dealmaker, and an unwavering supporter of PEACE in the Middle East. He will be a strong advocate for the United States, and its interests, and I am pleased to have him on our team!” Trump wrote.

Boulos is yet another family member in a long line of Trump relatives involved in his administration.

Ivanka Trump’s father-in-law, Charles Kushner, has been named US ambassador to France.

During the 2024 election, Boulos helped Trump connect with the Arab-American community and campaigned for him in Michigan, a state with a high concentration of Muslims and Arab-Americans.

Muslim support may have enabled President-elect Donald Trump to flip Michigan on the way to winning the 2024 election.

Trump won Michigan in 2016–the first time a Republican presidential candidate secured the state in three decades.

Although President Biden won the state in the 2020 election, Trump managed to flip the state back, which he won by just 10,000 votes.

Muslim support may have been a factor in Trump’s clinching the state that is home to the largest Arab population in the United States.

A day before the election, Trump boasted of a “record-breaking” coalition of Arab and Muslim voters in Michigan.

“We are building the biggest and broadest coalition in American Political History. This includes record-breaking numbers of Arab and Muslim Voters in Michigan who want PEACE,” said Trump on X, a day before the presidential election.
