Palestinian man armed with submachine gun and bomb shot dead by Israeli troops, thwarting terror attack.

Israeli soldiers shot and killed a terrorist armed with an assault rifle and improvised explosive device on Monday. He was planning to attack the Jewish community of Neve Tzuf in Samaria, aka Halamish, in Samaria.

According to Hebrew-language media, the terrorist opened fire with a homemade machine gun – likely a Carlo submachine gun commonly manufactured in Palestinian Authority-controlled enclaves – towards troops standing at a checkpoint outside of the town.

The soldiers returned fire, striking the terrorist and killing him. There were no Israeli soldiers or civilians injured in the incident.

“A few minutes ago, IDF soldiers eliminated an armed terrorist who arrived at the Neve Tzuf checkpoint from Nachliel. The terrorist was armed with an explosive device and an improvised rifle and was going to harm soldiers and civilians,” said Binyamin Regional Council head Israel Gantz in a media statement.

“Our soldiers shot and killed him, and with that, they prevented a terror attack, thank G-d. Thank you to the IDF commanders and soldiers for the great response.”

The incident came during an uptick in terror attacks throughout Israel.

On Sunday, an Arab woman was shot in the leg after she attempted to stab a guard on the Jerusalem light rail.

Later on Sunday evening, the remains of a rocket were discovered in Ram-On, a northern Israel town near the terror hotbed of Jenin. It appears that the projectile had been launched from Jenin towards the civilian community, though it’s unclear when it was fired.

Last Tuesday, IDF soldier Shilo Amir was killed near Kedumim in Samaria after a Palestinian man opened fire at a checkpoint. The assailant was shot and killed by troops after a short chase.

Also last week, a submachine gun was found in a wooded area outside of Beit Shemesh. It was unclear if the gun was being stored in anticipation of a future terror attack.

Palestinian driver apprehended after trying to flee the scene.

An IDF soldier was injured in a suspected car-ramming attack at the Halamish Junction in Samaria on Tuesday evening.

The Palestinian driver of the car was detained by Israeli security forces after initially trying to flee.

The 19-year-old soldier was given first aid by Magen David Adom medics and airlifted to a hospital for treatment.

Initial Hebrew reports said the soldier, who is in the Givati Infantry Brigade, was moderately injured.

A Palestinian terrorist who murdered a father and his two children was sentenced to four life terms in prison.

Palestinian terrorist Omar al-Abed, who murdered three members of the Salomon family in Neve Tzuf in Samaria in July, was sentenced by an Israeli Military court on Thursday to four life terms in prison.

He was also ordered to pay damages in the sum of NIS 1.8 million.

On July 21, al-Abed infiltrated the Salomon home and fatally stabbed Yosef Salomon, 70, and his children Chaya Salomon, 46, and Elad Salomon, 36, as the family celebrated the birth of a new grandson. Yosef’s wife Tova, 68, was seriously wounded.

He was shot and neutralized during the attack by a soldier on furlough.

Part of al-Abed’s home was destroyed by the IDF in August. Similarly, an Israeli military court convicted five relatives of knowing of the impending attack ahead of time and of failing to take any action to warn the Jewish state.

The Salomon family had campaigned to have al-Abed executed, but only one judge of the three sentenced him to death. Al-Abed’s two brothers and uncle were sentenced to eight months in prison, his father was sentenced to two months incarceration, and his mother was sentenced to a month in prison and a fine for incitement and glorifying her son’s actions after the attack. The five also received suspended sentences.

“We also discussed the maximum sentence — the death penalty. Words cannot describe the extent of the atrocity committed by the defendant,” the judges wrote. They also called for al-Abed “not to be released in any future deal.”

Responding to the sentence, Defense Minister Avigdor Liberman, who had advocated for the death penalty for al-Abed, tweeted that “no number of life sentences is enough to punish this human animal who has a smile smeared on his face. My heart aches with the Salomon family.”

Chen Salomon, who lost her father-in-law and two brothers-in-law in the incident, said that “there is no punishment in the world which will bring back our loved ones. In order for incidents like this not to occur in the future, the state needs to implement the death penalty, which is what this vile murderer deserves.”

Al-Abed receives a monthly salary from the Palestinian Authority (PA) for committing the murders. According to official PA regulations, he is eligible for $3,120 per month, for life.
