The antisemitic, vitriolic commencement speech by CUNY law school graduate and anti-Israel activist Fatima Mousa Mohammed earlier this month “is even worse than last year’s hate spewed by Nerdeen Kiswani,” tweeted S.A.F.E. CUNY, adding that “CUNY Law, under state investigation, tried to hide this video.”

Mohammed’s hate speech was met with enthusiastic applause.

S.A.F.E. CUNY advocates for Zionist Jews systemically discriminated against and excluded by CUNY and its union.

“Imagine being so crazed by hatred for Israel as a Jewish State that you make it the subject of your commencement speech at a law school graduation. Anti-Israel derangement syndrome at work,” tweeted New York Congressman Ritchie Torres.

Police arrested three people,  saying that while the right to protest will be upheld, disturbances of public order and violence are not allowed.

Several Arab students were arrested Sunday at Tel Aviv University (TAU) during a Nakba Day protest that turned violent when they clashed with Jewish students and activists staging a counter-demonstration.

Although at first separated by several meters and temporary metal fencing, Arab demonstrators began beating Jews and then police who arrived on the scene. Several victims sustained head injuries that had to be treated by paramedics on site.

Police arrested three people, saying that while the right to protest will be upheld, disturbances of public order and violence are not allowed.

They also moved the pro-Israel demonstrators further away.

Nakba Day is observed annually by anti-Israel activists on May 15 to commemorate the “Nakba,” or “Catastrophe,” of Israel’s establishment on May 15, 1948. Israel celebrates its birthday on the Hebrew date of its declaration of independence, which fell last week.

The anti-Zionist group consisted of a few hundred Arab and far-left students wearing black shirts, some with keffiyehs over their shoulders, and waving flags of the Palestine Liberation Organization. Some held pictures of keys, symbolizing the “lost homes” of the Arabs who fled during the War of Independence.

They said that they were demonstrating in “Sheikh Munis,” which was a small Arab village in the Jaffa subdistrict of Mandatory Palestine that was abandoned by its residents before the War of Independence. Tel Aviv University was built partly on the village land.

The counter-demonstrators waved Israeli flags, chanted pro-Israel slogans and distributed t-shirts displaying a key with a Star of David alongside the popular Biblical prophecy: “And the children [of Israel] shall return to their borders.”

Activists of Im Tirtzu, an organization especially active on college campuses that works to strengthen Zionist values, also put up two giant banners reading “Nakba Nonsense.”

The point, they explained, was to counter the “obscene historical distortion that seeks to rewrite history by making the victims – the Jews – into the aggressors.”

“We cannot afford the luxury of allowing this anti-Israel propaganda to go unchallenged,” said CEO Matan Peleg.

The police were out in force Sunday in several places where they expected possible violence during similar demonstrations, including Nazareth, Palestinian cities in Judea and Samaria, and especially in Jerusalem.

Hamas called Sunday morning for its followers to reach the al-Aqsa compound on the Temple Mount and to “continue on the path of resistance until the liberation of our people and the end of the occupation.”

The Palestinian riots on the Temple Mount during the recently concluded month of Ramadan are still fresh in the minds of the Israeli security forces, and the police declared that “We are keeping an eye on every incident if and when it occurs.”

Russia launched a wide-ranging attack on Ukraine on Thursday, hitting cities and bases with airstrikes or shelling, as civilians piled into trains and cars to flee.

Ukraine’s government said Russian tanks and troops rolled across the border in what it called a “full-scale war” that could rewrite the geopolitical order and whose fallout already reverberated around the globe.

In announcing a major military operation, Russian President Vladimir Putin deflected global condemnation and cascading new sanctions — and chillingly referred to his country’s nuclear arsenal as he threatened any foreign country attempting to interfere with “consequences you have never seen.”

Among Putin’s pledges was to “denazify” Ukraine. World War II looms large in Russia, after the Soviet Union suffered more deaths than any country while fighting Adolf Hitler’s forces.

Kremlin propaganda paints members of Ukrainian right-wing groups as neo-Nazis, exploiting their admiration for WWII-era Ukrainian nationalist leaders who sided with the Nazis. Ukraine is now led by a Jewish president who lost relatives in the Holocaust and angrily dismissed the Russian claims.

Putin’s announcement came just hours after the Ukrainian president rejected Moscow’s claims that his country poses a threat to Russia and made a passionate, last-minute plea for peace.

Zelensky said he asked to arrange a call with Putin late Wednesday, but the Kremlin did not respond.

‘A full-scale war in Europe has begun’

NATO’s chief said the “brutal act of war” shattered peace on the European continent, as the U.S.-led alliance mobilized more troops to move toward eastern Europe.

Sirens rang out in Ukraine’s capital and people massed in train stations and took to roads, as the government said the former Soviet republic was seeing a long-anticipated invasion from the east, north and south and reported more than 40 soldiers had been killed and dozens wounded.

“A full-scale war in Europe has begun,” Ukrainian presidential adviser Mykhailo Podolyak said. “Russia is not only attacking Ukraine, but the rules of normal life in the modern world.”

World leaders decried the attack, which could cause massive casualties, topple Ukraine’s democratically elected government, upend the post-Cold War security order and result in severe economic impact around the world from soaring heating bills to spikes in food prices.

“We woke up in a different world today,” Germany’s foreign minister said, as NATO agreed to beef up air, land and sea forces on its eastern flank near Ukraine and Russia.

“Russia has attacked Ukraine in a cowardly and suicidal way, like Nazi Germany did during World War II,” the Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky said in an online briefing,” AFP reported.

Global financial markets plunged and oil prices soared, and governments from the U.S. to Asia and Europe readied new sanctions after weeks of failed efforts for a diplomatic solution. But global powers have said they will not intervene militarily to defend Ukraine.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky cut diplomatic ties with Moscow and declared martial law. Ukrainians who had long braced for the prospect of an assault were urged to stay home and not to panic, even as officials said Russian troops were rolling into Ukraine, and big explosions were heard in the capital of Kyiv, Kharkiv in the east and Odesa in the west.

“We are facing a war and horror. What could be worse?” 64-year-old Liudmila Gireyeva said in Kyiv. She planned to head to the western city of Lviv and then to try to move to Poland to join her daughter.

Putin “will be damned by history, and Ukrainians are damning him,” she said.
