Israel’s Ambassador to the U.S. and the United Nations (U.N.) Gilad Erdan dispatched on Tuesday a firm letter to U.N. Secretary-General António Guterres and the Security Council after the Palestinian Authority (PA) sent two letters of complaint against Israel to the U.N. regarding Israel’s declaration of six supposed civil society organizations as terrorist organizations, writing that “I despise U.N. officials who, in their hypocrisy, could fight terrorism but instead condemn Israel for its war on organizations that fund it.”

On October 22, in accordance with the Israeli Counter-Terrorism Law of 2016, Israel designated six supposed human rights organizations that are closely linked to the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP), a designated terror organization in Israel, the U.S., the European Union, Australia, Canada and Japan.

A detailed investigation conducted by Israeli authorities revealed extensive information as to how the PFLP raised funds through a network of institutions, acting under the guise of human rights organizations, including through the six proscribed six entities.

The aim of this network is to raise and funnel donations from abroad to fund PFLP activities, including its acts of terror. The network of PFLP institutions operated under the guise of humanitarian aid and human rights activity, receiving funding in millions of euros from governments that are U.N. Member States.

“These institutions serve as PFLP’s financial lifeline and were deeply involved in money laundering and terrorist financing. They have all engaged in forgery of documents and fraudulent activities, knowingly transferring funds allocated by their foreign donors for the purpose of supporting Palestinian civil society, into the hands of a murderous terror organization,” Erdan charged.

These institutions employed known, sometimes self-declared, PFLP operatives, allowing them the benefits of regular salaries, and the ability to use their facilities as safe haven for PFLP activities.

“While Israel attaches value to the work of Palestinian civil society organizations, it cannot allow the financing of terrorism under the pretense of humanitarian and civil assistance. With these recent designations, Israel does not seek to curtail freedom of expression nor limit any humanitarian activity. Israel acts against terror, and its channels of funding, in order to protect its citizens and society, as it is obligated to do,” he explained.

Israel “expects the international community to condemn this dangerous abuse of civil society organizations,” and calls on all U.N. Member States, “in accordance with their obligations to prevent terrorism, money laundering and terrorist financing, to immediately halt any further transfers of funds and any other support to these designated institutions,” he wrote.

Several countries have demanded explanations or condemned Israel for this move.

“If the powers in 1942 had acted…, they could have saved 4 million Jews and millions of other people,” Netanyahu stated at the official Holocaust Memorial Day ceremony at Yad Vashem.

In his address Sunday evening at the official state ceremony marking the start of the Holocaust Memorial Day at the Yad Vashem Holocaust Museum, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu decried the inaction of the Allies during the Holocaust and their failure to save the Jews.

Referring to newly released UN documents showing that the Allies understood the dire situation of Europe’s Jews already in 1942, Netanyahu stressed the importance of a strong Jewish state.

“If the powers in 1942 had acted against the death camps — and all that was needed was repeated bombing of the camps — had they acted then, they could have saved 4 million Jews and millions of other people,” he said.

“The powers knew, and they did not act,” he stated. “When terrible crimes were being committed against the Jews, when our brothers and sisters were being sent to the furnaces, the powers knew and did not act.”

‘We have to be able to defend ourselves’

He stated three causes for the organized slaughter: widespread anti-Semitism, global indifference, and the weakness of the Jewish people in the Diaspora. The lesson is clear, he continued, stressing the importance of a strong State of Israel and its ability to defend itself.

“We have to be able to defend ourselves on our own against any threat against any enemy,” he declared. “From a helpless people, we have turned into a robust nation. From a defenseless nation, we have turned into a powerful country that can defend itself with one of the strongest armies.”

He said this lesson guides him “every morning and every evening.”

Israel has transformed itself into a strong nation with one of the “strongest defensive forces in the world,” Netanyahu added, warning that “those that seek to destroy us will put themselves in danger of destruction.”

The Israeli leader also condemned the “hypocrisy” of the United Nations (UN), which he said, transfers its “hatred of the Jews to hatred of the Jewish state.”
