Trump administration condemns vandalism against Jewish cemeteries

The White House reiterated its condemnation of anti-Semitic activity a day after it was discovered that a Jewish cemetery in Philadelphia was vandalized. 

White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer conveyed President Donald Trump’s condemnation of the recent incidents of vandalism in at least two Jewish cemeteries.

“The president continues to condemn these and any other forms of anti-Semitic and hateful acts in the strongest terms,” Spicer said on Monday.”The cowardly destruction in Philadelphia this weekend comes on top of similar accounts from Missouri and threats made to Jewish community centers around the country.

Spicer’s remarks were made a day after approximately 100 tombstones in a Jewish cemetery in Philadelphia were found toppled, following a similar incident that occurred a week earlier in a Jewish cemetery in St. Louis, Missouri.

“From our country’s founding we’ve been dedicated to protecting the freedom of our citizens’ rights to worship.” Spicer continued. “No one in America should feel afraid to follow the religion of their choosing freely and openly.”

“The president is dedicated to preserving this originating principle of our nation,” he stated.

Last week, Trump referred to the uptick in anti-Semitism as “horrible” and “painful,” after touring the National Museum of African-American History and Culture.
