Trump brags about his ‘very good call’ with Hezbollah

Under the proposed arrangement, Hezbollah would halt drone and rocket fire toward northern Israel if Israel canceled a planned operation in Beirut.

US President Donald Trump said Monday that Israel halted a planned military operation in Beirut after a conversation with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, while Hezbollah separately conveyed through intermediaries that it was prepared to stop attacks on Israel.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump said he spoke directly with Netanyahu and that Israeli forces were ordered not to proceed with an operation in the Lebanese capital.

“I had a very productive call with Prime Minister Bibi Netanyahu, of Israel, and there will be no Troops going to Beirut, and any Troops that are on their way have already been turned back.”

Trump also said he communicated with Hezbollah through intermediaries and claimed the group had agreed to halt hostilities.

“Likewise, through highly placed Representatives, I had a very good call with Hezbollah, and they agreed that all shooting will stop — That Israel will not attack them, and they will not attack Israel.”

Statements from Lebanese officials appeared consistent with Trump’s account. According to Axios, Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri informed the Trump administration that Hezbollah was prepared to enter an immediate and comprehensive ceasefire with Israel.

Ali Hamdan, an adviser to Berri, told Axios that the message was delivered to US Ambassador to Lebanon Michel Issa on Sunday.

Hamdan said Berri informed the administration that Hezbollah was ready to fully comply with a broad ceasefire arrangement and that the speaker was willing to guarantee its implementation.

Earlier Monday, Netanyahu and Defense Minister Israel Katz signaled a tougher stance toward Hezbollah positions in the Lebanese capital.

In a video statement, Netanyahu said Hezbollah headquarters in Beirut’s Dahieh district would no longer be exempt from Israeli military action.

“There will be no situation in which Hezbollah attacks our cities and citizens while the terror headquarters in Dahieh remain off-limits,” Netanyahu said.

He also said Israeli forces were expanding operations in southern Lebanon and targeting Hezbollah infrastructure.
