US President Donald Trump downplays Iranian missile attack on evacuated US airbase in Qatar, says Iran gave US advanced warning, emphasizes most of the incoming missiles were shot down and no casualties caused.

US President Donald Trump publicly offered his thanks to the Iranian government overnight, following an Iranian missile attack on an American military base in Qatar.

On Monday night, Iran carried out a missile attack on the Al-Udeid airbase in Qatar, which typically houses some 10,000 American military personnel.

The facility was evacuated before the attack, however, and no injuries or damage were reported.

In a post to his Truth Social account overnight, Trump said that 14 missiles were launched in the attack, contradicting earlier reports of only six missiles.

All but one of the Iranian missiles were shot down, Trump said, while the 14th was not on course to hit the Al-Udeid base.

Trump downplayed the significance of the Iranian attack, calling it a “very weak” symbolic response to America’s targeted strikes on the Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan nuclear facilities.

“Iran has officially responded to our Obliteration of their Nuclear Facilities with a very weak response, which we expected, and have very effectively countered,” Trump wrote.

“There have been 14 missiles fired — 13 were knocked down, and 1 was ‘set free,’ because it was headed in a nonthreatening direction. I am pleased to report that NO Americans were harmed, and hardly any damage was done.”

The president also said Iran gave the US advanced warning of the incoming attack, adding that the symbolic missile fire cleared the way for a ceasefire between Israel and Iran.

“Most importantly, they’ve gotten it all out of their ‘system,’ and there will, hopefully, be no further HATE. I want to thank Iran for giving us early notice, which made it possible for no lives to be lost, and nobody to be injured. Perhaps Iran can now proceed to Peace and Harmony in the Region, and I will enthusiastically encourage Israel to do the same.”
