US military chief visits Israel to discuss bilateral cooperation

Following up on a visit to the US by the IDF chief of staff last year, Dunford is in Israel to expand bilateral cooperation between both militaries.

General Joseph F. Dunford, chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff, landed in Israel Monday on an official visit to discuss cooperation between the militaries of both countries as well as tackling mutual security challenges.

Dunford, guest of Lt.-Gen. Gadi Eizenkot, the IDF chief of staff, will also meet with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman and several IDF commanders.

Eizenkot traveled to the US last August as Dunford’s guest, also to enhance collaboration between the IDF and the American military. The IDF chief met with US military and defense officials for discussions concerning mutual security challenges and bilateral military cooperation.

Eisenkot took the opportunity to inspect the squadron of F-35 fighter jets, which was eventually delivered to the Israeli Air Force (IAF), as well as the US military’s Special Forces base in Florida.

On Tuesday, Dunford will be greeted by an official Honor Guard at the ‘Rabin’ (HaKiryah) military base in Tel-Aviv.

This will be General Dunford’s third visit to Israel.
