(Syrian Observatory for Human Rights)(Syrian Observatory for Human Rights)IAF targets Syrian army sites, 1 killed – reportThe attack was reportedly launched from the Golan Heights in northern Israel, adjacent to Syrian territory. By World Israel News StaffFor the second time in less than two weeks, the Israeli air force allegedly targeted Syrian army infrastructure late Sunday evening. The strike came after explosive drones were launched from Syrian territory towards the southernmost city in Israel, Eilat. One Syrian soldier was killed and three others were wounded, according to Syrian army officials.According to Arabic-language media reports, explosions rocked a Syrian army base and nearby residential building on the outskirts of Damascus. The bombings on Sunday struck “a number of our military sites in the southern region and one of the residential buildings in the Kafar Souseh area in the city of Damascus,” the Syrian army said in a statement.“Our air defense systems confronted the enemy’s missiles despite their density and shot down a considerable number of them,” the statement added. The attack was reportedly launched from the Golan Heights in northern Israel, adjacent to Syrian territory.Israel did not confirm or deny that it was behind the airstrike, in line with a long-standing policy that rarely acknowledges IAF bombings in Syria. While Israel is widely believed to have struck targets in Syria on hundreds of occasions in recent years, those bombings have been mostly limited to Iranian military assets and personnel in the country. In April 2024, Israel assassinated a senior Iranian commander at a building adjacent to the Iranian consulate in Damascus. That bombing sparked an unprecedented aerial barrage directly from Iran to Israel, with Tehran launching ballistic missiles, cruise missiles and explosive drones. The vast majority of the projectiles were shot down en route to Israel by the American, French, British, and Jordanian air forces.A Bedouin-Israeli girl was seriously wounded in the barrage when a large piece of shrapnel from an interception smashed through the roof of her family’s home.
