16-year-old wounded in Jerusalem stabbing released from hospital

The teen’s father thanked Israelis for their outpouring of support and prayers.

Sixteen-year-old Yisrael Meir Nachumberg, who was moderately wounded in a stabbing attack last Friday in Jerusalem, has been discharged from Hadassah-Ein Kerem Hospital in Jerusalem.

The hospital released a photo of the teen thanking a doctor who had provided medical care when Yisrael Meir first arrived at the hospital after he was rushed by ambulance from the scene of the attack.

Nachumberg had said that he was “scared to death” when the Arab attacker, also a teenager, had jumped on him. He said he had been riding his bicycle toward the Jaffa Gate of Jerusalem’s Old City when he was attacked.

The stab wound was only “a centimeter” away from his spinal cord, he says, adding that after he was attacked, the assailant ran in pursuit of his brother, but police then shot and killed the terrorist before the brother could be harmed.

His father thanked the medical staff at Hadassah. He also thanked Israelis for their outpouring of support and prayers for Yisrael Meir’s well-being. He said that the family had benefited from the “true beauty of the Israeli people.”

Gavriel Lavi, 50, who was critically wounded in the attack when he was stabbed multiple times in his upper body, was stabilized by the medical team at Shaare Zedek Hospital in Jerusalem and is currently off a respirator. He was taken out of the intensive care unit on Tuesday, according to the hospital, and is now in a regular department.
