Two IDF soldiers were killed and four others wounded Tuesday night when the armored vehicle in which they were riding as part of a training maneuver in the Golan Heights overturned.
The casualties were named as Lt. Avshalom Armoni, 22, from Beit Horon, and Sergeant Avinoam David Cohen, 22, from Jerusalem.
Cohen’s sister gave birth to a girl just hours after the accident occurred.
The soldiers, from the 411th artillery battalion, were riding in a mobilized artillery unit when at some point the vehicle capsized, killing an officer and an NCO, and wounding four others, two of them seriously.
The reason for the accident is yet unclear.
“This was a very serious and painful incident,” IDF spokesman Brig. Gen. Ronen Manelis stated.
The IDF announced its has launched an investigation into the incident, while all overnight training exercises involving armored vehicles are being held off until Sunday.
