36 injured in Jerusalem fire following explosion

A blaze that broke out Sunday night in a nine-story residential building in the neighborhood of Givat Mordechai in Jerusalem lightly injured 36 people, mostly from smoke inhalation.

Dozens of people injured in a residential fire in Jerusalem were taken to the Shaare Zedek, Hadassah Ein Kerem and Hadassah Mount Scopus hospitals in the capital.

Several firefighting teams rescued the people trapped in the burning building.

It is not yet clear what caused the fire, but neighbors said they had heard an explosion before it broke out.

A team of specialists sent by Jerusalem’s municipality found that most of the apartments were not damaged and were still inhabitable. They located lodgings for those whose apartments were uninhabitable.
