Hamas has agreed to gradually reduce the number of bomb-laden kites and balloons sent across the border to Israel and eventually stop the practice altogether, the Palestinian daily Al Quds reported.

According to the report, Hamas’s leadership met in Gaza in recent hours and made the decision in order to head off the possibility of war with Israel.

Hamas reportedly made the decision after meeting with representatives of Egypt and other countries that advised the terror group to stop the arson attacks so that Israel would not have justification for a large-scale military offensive in Gaza.

On Tuesday, Ynet reported that Egypt had asked Hamas to stop the arson kites and balloons launched against Israel.

A Palestinian source from Gaza told Ynet Wednesday that Hamas was unable to stop the arson attacks immediately because it would be seen as capitulation to Israel.

Ynet also reported that Hamas’s leadership outside Gaza had notified the Gaza leadership that it could no longer continue to fund the marches along the border fence with Israel.

Israel’s decision to stop the flow of fuel through the Kerem Shalom crossing has led to a sharp spike in fuel prices in Gaza, putting further pressure on Hamas’s leadership there.
