Abbas is seeking help from the international community to halt Israeli construction in Judea and Samaria.
Palestinian Authority (PA) Chairman Mahmoud Abbas warned of “dangerous consequences” if Israel goes ahead with its announced plan to build another 2,500 housing units in Judea and Samaria, Israel Radio reported Thursday morning.
Abbas, who made his remarks at a meeting with his Fatah party in Ramallah, said the PA would launch a diplomatic campaign with international forums to address the issue.
Earlier this week, Saeb Erekat, secretary-general of the Palestine Liberation Organization, demanded that the “international community…hold Israel accountable immediately for what it is doing.”
Erekat and PLO executive committee member Hanan Ashrawi said Israel was emboldened by US President Donald Trump to follow through with such a move.
“It is evident that Israel is exploiting the inauguration of the new American administration,” Ashrawi charged.
