After Greta Thunberg’s flotilla stunt, thousands plot to storm Gaza via Egypt

Egyptian approval for the pro-Hamas demonstration remains highly unlikely.

Following in the footsteps of Swedish anti-Israel activist Greta Thunberg’s publicity stunt sailing toward Gaza on a ship, the Madleen, with left-wing celebrities, a far more dangerous effort is planned to breach into the Hamas-controlled territory.

More than 10,000 radical activists from over 32 countries are plotting to descend on Egypt and attempt to storm the Rafah border crossing into Gaza for what organizers call the “Global March to Gaza.”

The eight-day protest is being orchestrated by Progressive International, which has framed the march as a response to the “genocide” in Gaza, using inflammatory rhetoric that mirrors Hamas propaganda.

“Because no one is acting proportionately to the tragedy. Gaza is starving, crushed, isolated,” organizers wrote on their website, echoing talking points from designated terrorist organizations. “If states fail, then people must step in.”

According to the Washington-based Daily Caller website, participants will arrive in Cairo starting June 12, then travel to Al-Arish before beginning their trek toward Gaza.

Working groups spanning multiple continents are coordinating travel and media outreach, while recruitment efforts have attracted support from notorious anti-Israel figures, including Yanis Varoufakis, a radical Greek politician, and various fringe American groups with names like “Taxpayers Against Genocide” and “Teachers Against Genocide.”

However, Egyptian approval for the pro-Hamas demonstration remains highly unlikely.

While organizers claim they have contacted Egyptian officials, they acknowledge having received no formal permission for what amounts to an attempt to breach a sovereign nation’s border security during wartime.

Complicating matters further, unprecedented protests have erupted within Gaza itself against Hamas leadership since March 25.

Gazans by the thousands have taken to the streets demanding Hamas step down and end the now 20-month war in Gaza. In response, Hamas has reportedly executed protesters and kidnapped others.

Whether it becomes a major security incident or simply another failed publicity stunt like Thunberg’s, remains to be seen.

On Wednesday, Israel cautioned that it is “prepared to act accordingly” to block Thunberg’s so-called Freedom Flotilla Coalition from reaching Gaza.

Since departing Sicily on Sunday, Thunberg has treated her supposed humanitarian mission as a photo opportunity, sharing images of herself styled in Palestinian regalia while transporting what amounts to a symbolic shipment of milk and protein bars.
