Huckabee calls out ‘delusional’ UK minister for taking credit for Trump hostage deal

The assertion was made during an interview with Sky News, claiming that Britain had worked “behind the scenes” to advance the peace deal.

US Ambassador Mike Huckabee rebuked British Education Secretary Bridget Phillipson on Sunday after she claimed that the UK had played “a key role” in shaping the Gaza ceasefire agreement.

Huckabee called the remark “delusional,” insisting that credit belonged to President Trump and his team.

Phillipson made the assertion during an interview with Sky News, saying that Britain had worked “behind the scenes” to advance a peace deal.

Her statement drew swift criticism online. One X user, Gillian Radcliffe, wrote that the claim was “nonsense,” arguing that the UK’s recognition of Palestine during negotiations had hindered, not helped, the process.

Responding on social media, Huckabee wrote, “I assure you she’s delusional. She can thank @realDonaldTrump anytime just to set the record straight.”

Trump unveiled his administration’s Gaza peace framework on September 30 in Washington, standing alongside Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

The plan, developed by Special Envoy Steve Witkoff, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Vice President JD Vance, and senior adviser Jared Kushner, outlined a 20-point roadmap to end the war and return Israeli hostages.

“We’re at a minimum, very, very close,” Trump said at the joint White House press conference. Netanyahu described the proposal as “a critical step towards both ending the war in Gaza and dramatically advancing peace in the Middle East.”

Under the US-brokered agreement, all Israeli hostages held in Gaza are to be released within 72 hours of Israel’s formal acceptance, in exchange for close to 2,000 Palestinian prisoners.

The deal calls for a complete halt to military operations, with battle lines frozen until full withdrawal terms are met. It also includes provisions granting amnesty to Hamas members who renounce violence and safe passage for those choosing to leave Gaza.

As of noon on Friday, implementation had begun, with 20 living and 48 deceased hostages expected to return to Israel by Monday morning. Reports indicate that not all the remains have yet been located.
