Anti-normalization laws in Arab world undermine Israel peace efforts

US President Donald Trump expressed surprise at Lebanon’s ban on contact with Israel, calling such laws “crazy” — a stance echoed by critics who say these policies block any real path to peace.

Across parts of the Arab and Muslim world, strict anti-normalization laws criminalize even basic interaction with Israelis, with penalties ranging from prison terms to harsher punishments.

Analysts warn that as long as coexistence is treated as a crime, stability will remain out of reach — reinforcing extremism and making genuine peace efforts far more difficult
