Syria’s military beefs up reinforcements along the Golan Heights border with Israel, Arab media says.
By World Israel News Staff
A large number of Syrian military reinforcements have been deployed at the border with the Israeli Golan Heights, reports the pro-Assad regime news site Al-Masdar Al-‘Arabi.
Al-Masdar Al-‘Arabi reported that reinforcements were dispatched to observation posts in both the Al-Quneitra and Daraa governorates.
It cites its source as calling the military measure “a precautionary move by the Syrian Armed Forces” due to the fact that the “suspected Israeli drones that were shot down this week” had entered Syria from the Golan Heights region.
According to official Syrian news agency SANA, a drone was shot down in the Quneitra area near the Israeli border.
“The first of the suspected Israeli drones was shot down on Thursday night when it was seen flying over the Aqraba area of southeastern Damascus,” reports Al-Masdar Al-‘Arabi.
The news site referred to the aerial vehicle as a “suspected Israeli drone carrying cluster bombs,” basing its reporting on “a military source in southern Syria.”
The IDF Arabic-language spokesman Avichay Adraee said the drone did not come from Israel. He added that, in fact, it was likely to have been Iranian.
What is “certain,” he tweeted, is that it was not an Israeli military drone.
