Argentina declassifies documents on Jewish center attack

The Argentine government plans to declassify documents related to the investigation into the devastating bombing of the AMIA Jewish community center in Buenos Aires.

Alberto Nisman.

The Argentine government announced a plan to declassify all documents related to the investigation into the 1994 bombing of a Jewish community center that killed 85 people.

Cabinet chief Anibal Fernandez told reporters Friday the aim is to let relatives of victims read the reports.

The decision comes amid a tense political climate after the prosecutor in the case was found shot dead on Jan. 18.

Alberto Nisman had led the investigation into the bombing since 2004. Days before his death, he accused President Cristina Fernandez of helping Iranian officials cover up their alleged role in the bombing in exchange for favorable trade deals.

Fernandez has rejected the allegations and Iran has denied involvement in the attack. No one has been convicted in the bombing.
