An attempted stabbing attack in eastern Jerusalem occurred when Trump and his entourage were visiting the Old City.

Border Police officers in Jerusalem thwarted a stabbing attack Monday afternoon in Abu Dis, an Arab neighborhood in eastern Jerusalem. The Palestinian assailant attempted to stab them at a guard post and was subsequently shot and neutralized by the police.

Other than the attacker who succumbed to his wounds, there were no reported injuries, according to a police spokesperson.

The attack took place as US President Donald Trump and his entourage were visiting Jerusalem’s Old City, which was essentially cordoned off and on lockdown at the time.

Palestinians participated in violent protests throughout Judea and Samaria on Monday, demonstrating support for a hunger strike by Palestinian terrorists held in Israeli prisons.

“The primary goal is to show that all Palestinians in historic Palestine are standing together behind the hunger-striking prisoners,” said Isam Bakr, a member of a group that organized the strike, according to The Jerusalem Post.

“We timed this strike to take place upon the arrival of Trump,” Bakr said. “We want to send a message to the American president that he has to pressure Israel to end its settlement construction and occupation.”

In correlation with the clashes between Palestinians and IDF troops, many Palestinian shops and restaurants, government institutions, and schools were closed throughout Judea and Samaria as well as in Gaza.
