Residents of southern Israel are expressing outrage after a stolen all-terrain vehicle (ATV) from Moshav Klahim, near the Gaza border, was discovered in a TikTok video showing Hamas terrorists driving it deep inside the Gaza Strip.

The footage, circulating online in recent days, shows armed men riding the distinctive vehicle through a crowd, while a jeep tows it past what appears to be a United Nations vehicle.

The ATV’s owner, IDF reservist Aviv Moaziz, said the theft took place on the eve of Yom Kippur, October 1. “I came back from synagogue and saw that the ATV was gone,” he told Maariv. “After a long search, we found videos with all the identifying marks—it was definitely ours. We then realized it had crossed into Gaza, supposedly while our army was operating there.” Moaziz said the incident reflects a wider problem of unchecked theft and lawlessness in the south.

His sister, who was home sick at the time, said the thieves entered the house, took the keys, and drove the vehicle away. “We even found the thief on TikTok and sent everything to the police. We did most of the work for them, but the ATV never came back. Now we know why—it was smuggled into Gaza,” she said.

Residents say the case exposes continued security gaps nearly two years after the October 7 attacks. “Where are the army and the police that an ATV can cross one of the most sensitive borders in the world?” Moaziz asked. “It’s frightening how easily this happened. Two years have passed, and it feels like we’ve learned nothing.”

Local sources told Maariv that stolen ATVs are often used to raid IDF bases or transport weapons, enabling thieves and terrorists to escape quickly. The Israel Police said an investigation was opened immediately and that it continues to pursue the case, emphasizing that vehicle theft is a serious offense often linked to other crimes. The force added that any breaches along the Gaza fence are the responsibility of other security agencies.
