Ballistic missile launched from Yemen targets Dead Sea area

IDF missile defense network shoots down incoming Houthi ballistic missile which targeted Dead Sea and the Arava regions, a day after Houthis launched a missile towards the southern Israeli city of Beersheba.

Houthi terrorists operating out of Yemen launched a ballistic missile towards southeastern Israel before dawn on Sunday morning, in the second such attack over the weekend.

Sirens sounded in the Dead Sea and Arava regions at around 4:45 a.m. on Sunday, after IDF early warning systems detected a single ballistic missile launch from Yemen.

“The IDF identified a missile launched from Yemen toward Israeli territory, an IDF spokesperson said. “Defense systems are operating to intercept the threat.”

Shortly afterwards, the army announced that the missile had been intercepted and destroyed before entering Israeli airspace.

“Following the alerts activated a short time ago in the Arava and Dead Sea areas, one missile launched from Yemen was intercepted. The missile was intercepted before it crossed into Israeli territory,” said the announcement.

Magen David Adom, Israel’s largest emergency response organization, later said that it had not received any reports of injuries from shrapnel or other debris.

Just over 24 hours earlier, Houthi forces launched a ballistic missile towards the southern Israeli city of Beersheba.

In that attack, as in Sunday’s ballistic missile launch, the incoming projectile was intercepted and destroyed before it entered Israeli airspace, and no injuries were reported.

Saturday morning’s attack came shortly after American warplanes bombed Houthi positions in Sana’a and neighboring towns, with at least five airstrikes reported in the Nihm district.

On Wednesday, Houthi rebels launched a ballistic missile towards Israel, prompting warning sirens to be sounded in the northern coastal area, in towns as far north as Acre and Nahariya, near the border with Lebanon.

The incoming Houthi missile was intercepted.
