New York Yankees legend Alex Rodriguez, in Israel with his fiancee Jennifer Lopez, who is performing a concert on Thursday night in Tel Aviv, tweeted on Wednesday about the possibility of bringing a Major League Baseball event to Israel.
He suggested a number of places, including Israel, for a MLB series.
The retired Rodriguez, known to baseball fans as A-Rod, says he’s having a great time in Israel through his online posts.
Tweeting from the venue where Lopez was rehearsing, he said: “What an amazing time we are having on my first trip to Tel Aviv! The people have been wonderful and have such energy. I will definitely be back and recommend visiting this incredible country!”
Major League Baseball has played outside the U.S. for years. This year regular season games have taken place in Mexico, England and Japan.
Israel has its own baseball association featuring 80 teams in 16 centers, according to the group’s website.
In 2017, Israel’s national team surprised everyone with a remarkable run at the World Baseball Classic in South Korea, advancing to the final eight before being eliminated by Japan. Israel was given a 100-to-1 shot when entering the tournament.
