BDS activists disrupt Holocaust film screening in Berlin

BDS supporters attempted to sabotage the screening of a Holocaust film in Berlin before being led off-stage.

Activists for the anti-Israel Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions movement (BDS) disrupted the screening of a Holocaust film in Berlin last Thursday, holding a banner reading, “No culture in whitewashing Apartheid,” The Jerusalem Post reported.

The event, the opening night of the 2018 SERET Israeli film and TV festival, featured the premier of “The Testament,” which centers on a Holocaust researcher who discovers a secret about his mother, a survivor.

One of the anarchists was identified by the Post as anti-Zionist Israeli Ronnie Barkan, who co-founded the BDS group Boycott from Within and slammed the SERET festival on social media as “a whitewashing extravaganza sponsored by the Israeli Embassy.”

Aktionsforum Israel, a pro-Israel group based in Germany, filmed the disruption, commenting that the incident “recalls the speech by [German lawmaker] Bjoern Hoecke with the culture of forgetting,” referring to the AfD politician’s criticism of a Holocaust memorial in Berlin as a “monument of shame” in January 2017 in Dresden, where he suggested that Germans “need to make a 180 degree change in their commemoration policy.”
