Syria has officially confirmed that Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shaibani and senior Syrian intelligence officials met Israeli intelligence officials in Jordan, in US-mediated talks aimed at defusing escalating tensions.
According to Damascus, the discussions focused on ending Israeli strikes, arrests and targeted operations in Syria, while reopening negotiations toward a security agreement that could eventually serve as the foundation for a broader deal.
The talks also addressed the growing Israel-Turkey rivalry in Syria, with Washington seeking to narrow the gaps between Jerusalem and Ankara and prevent their tensions from spilling into a direct confrontation on Syrian soil. Syria insisted that any future security arrangement must respect its sovereignty and territorial integrity.
