Board of Peace to rebuild Rafah in 3 years, starting with homes for 500,000 Gazans

At inaugural meeting of the Board of Peace, officials announce plans to rebuild the entire Rafah area in just three years and build new homes to house half a million Gazans.

The US-backed Board of Peace laid out an ambitious timeline for the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip during a gathering last Thursday, with plans to rebuild the Rafah district in the southern Strip in just three years.

President Donald Trump presided over the inaugural meeting of the Board of Peace, during which members discussed the organization’s first mission, the rehabilitation of the Gaza Strip.

Board of Peace Executive Board member Marc Rowan presented fellow members with details of the Trump administration’s vision for the reconstruction of the war-torn coastal enclave.

Rowan, a billionaire investment firm executive and prominent American Jewish philanthropist, is a long-time Trump supporter who was briefly considered for US Treasury Secretary after Trump won the 2024 presidential election.

During his presentation, the Apollo Global Management CEO said that under the plan drafted by Trump administration officials, 100,000 new homes will be built during the first phase of the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip, housing 500,000 residents.

Ultimately, the plan calls for the construction of a total of half a million new housing units for the Strip’s population of over two million people.

A video aired during the meeting laid out the Board of Peace’s goal of completely rebuilding Rafah within three years, and completing the rehabilitation of the entire Strip in ten years, including the development of industrial zones providing jobs for Gaza’s population.

“By year 10, Gaza will be self-governed, integrated into the region with thriving industries and housing for all,” the video said.

By then, the Gaza Strip will be “connected to the world through an Abrahamic gateway, linking it with Egypt, Israel, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, and extending to India and Europe,” the video continued.

However, the reconstruction of Gaza will be predicated on the conflict between Israel and Hamas being conclusively resolved, Rowan emphasized.

“This is not a problem of money or collateral. This is a problem of peace.”
