Breaking: IDF soldier injured by sniper fire on Gaza border

Initial reports speak of a sniper attack against the IDF. Israel reportedly fires back.

Israel’s security focus again centered on the south of the country Tuesday afternoon with initial reports of apparent sniper fire from Gaza.

One IDF soldier was reported lightly to moderately hurt.

The fire was aimed at an Israeli military force operating on the border fence near the Kissufim crossing.

The soldier received medical attention in the field, according to the reports, before being transported by ambulance to Soroka Hospital in Beersheba.

Palestinian media reported that Israel fired into Gaza in response to the attack on the IDF force. The Israeli fire is said to have struck one or more positions on the Hamas-held Gazan side of the border. Reports from the Gaza Strip say that there were explosions being heard in the central part of the Strip.

The Gazan border has remained a flashpoint especially on Fridays when Hamas-initiated clashes with IDF soldiers take place after prayers on the Muslim Sabbath, as part of an ongoing “March of Return” in the aftermath of U.S. President Donald Trump’s recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital and the move of the U.S. Embassy to Jerusalem.

However, attention has turned recently to the northern border with news of intense Israeli airstrikes into Syria and firing from Syria into the Jewish state by Iranian forces.
