Brother of murdered Israeli diplomat attends Trump’s State of the Union address

The brother of Yaron Lischinsky, an Israeli embassy staffer murdered in Washington last year, attends Trump’s State of the Union address as the president touts the return of all remaining Israeli hostages.

The brother of an Israeli diplomat murdered in a terrorist attack in Washington, D.C. last year was among the guests invited to attend President Donald Trump’s State of the Union address during a special joint session of Congress on Tuesday night.

Hanan Lischinsky, the eldest brother of Yaron Lischinsky, received an invitation from House Speaker Mike Johnson, who also invited pro-Israel Christian Zionist author, journalist, and former political consultant Joel C. Rosenberg.

Last May, dual Israeli-German citizen Yaron Lischinsky and his girlfriend, Sarah Milgrim, were shot and killed outside an event held at the Capital Jewish Museum by the American Jewish Committee.

Both Lischinsky and Milgrim were staff members at the Israeli embassy in Washington.

“These two young diplomats of the Israeli Embassy, devoted to the cause of peace and to one another, had their futures stolen in a violent act of antisemitism,” Johnson said earlier this week.

“Yaron’s brother, Hanan Lischinsky, has shown remarkable courage in shedding light on the extremism that took his brother’s life.”

“I am honored to invite him as my guest for President Trump’s State of the Union address.”

During his address, the longest in American history at one hour and 48 minutes, President Trump touted the return of all remaining hostages – dead and alive – held in Gaza at the time he took office last year.

“Under the ceasefire I negotiated, every single hostage, both living and dead, has been returned home. Can you believe this? Nobody thought it was possible. Nobody thought that was possible. Both living and dead,” Trump said.

The president credited White House special envoy to the Middle East Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner with securing the return of the body of the last hostage, Ran Gvili, the 28th slain captive returned during the October 10 ceasefire.

“They finally got it back to 27 and then, Steve and Jared, they got it back to 28, they found all 28, nobody thought that was possible but we did it.”
