Ceasefire ended: Hezbollah joins war on Israel, IDF kills Hezbollah leader

“Israel-Lebanon ceasefire is over,” says US official after Hezbollah launches rockets toward Israel, joining in Iranian attacks.

The Iranian-backed Hezbollah terror organization launched multiple rockets toward northern Israel overnight, violating the fragile ceasefire reached in November 2024 and prompting Israeli retaliatory strikes in Lebanon.

The attacks began at 1:04 a.m., according to the IDF, when Hezbollah terrorists fired multiple rockets and launched a number of drones toward northern Israel.

Shortly afterwards, IDF aircraft struck dozens of Hezbollah positions across southern Lebanon and the Beirut metropolitan area.

The Israeli military issued evacuation notices to residents of 53 towns and villages on the Lebanese side of the border.

“We have launched an offensive campaign against Hezbollah,” IDF Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir said Monday morning. “We need to be prepared for many days of fighting.”

“Hezbollah initiated a campaign against Israel overnight; responsibility for this escalation lies with it.”

Lebanese President Joseph Aoun castigated Hezbollah over the attacks.

“The missile fire from Lebanese territory attacks all the efforts that Lebanon has invested in distancing itself from the dangerous military confrontations in the region.”

“The continued use of Lebanon as a platform for proxy wars in which it has no part is something the state will not allow to repeat itself.”

Lebanon’s Health Ministry reported Monday morning that 31 people were killed and 149 wounded in IDF airstrikes overnight.

According to a report by the Saudi Al-Hadath outlet, MP Mohammed Raad, the head of Hezbollah’s parliamentary delegation, was among those killed in the strikes.

An Israeli official told Al-Hadath that all Hezbollah officials, including military commanders and political leaders, will be targeted in the new IDF campaign.

“There will be no immunity for any politicians or military officials in Hezbollah, or for their supporters.”

On Monday morning, thousands of residents of southern Lebanon evacuated northward, leaving major roads choked with traffic.
